Langford 1 Oxhey Jets 1

Recommended Posts

I was at this game on Saturday which was played in front of the second highest attendance of the day.

Despite the hot and humid conditions both teams put up a good performance.

The draw was a fair result and I think mid table stability is likely for these two.

Any opinions as to where these clubs will finish in the division?

Welcom to the board Pete. I reckon Oxhey will finish higher than Langford who will be in the bottom tier of seven I feel.

I think this is mainly due to there being very little, if anything, to do in leafy Langford on a Saturday afternoon other than go down to the local football Club which has a nice hospitable atmosphere.

This is Oxhey Jets version of events from their Website:

Spartan South Midlands Premier

11th August 2007

Jets opened their league campaign away at Langford on Saturday with a very hard earned 1-1 draw. Both teams will feel a little unlucky, and at times a little lucky, but when the feelings calm down the result was about right on the day.

On a blistering hot Saturday none of the teams will or should be over pleased with their performance. Jets opened brightly with the defence and forwards doing well, but it would be hard not to admit things seemed a little out of touch in midfield. Manager Benny Higham had eleven of his squad not available on the day, so was pleased with the draw overall, but having taken the lead all three looked possible.

David Jacks and Ian Bywater were the two players on the day that Jets owed much to, Jacks making several good and brave saves and Bywater showing the running of "Mad Youth" when the chips were down. Langford had and missed chances as did Oxhey but 20 minutes into the second half, Paul Turner struck a sweet corner across the face of the goal and TIM O'MARA met with a rare header for 1-0. It looked enough and may well have been had the referee who had looked a little overwhelmed all afternoon not managed to award a "baffling" penalty against skipper Chris Harding for hand ball.

Jets were not happy with the decisions most of the afternoon as the home team seemed to benefit with most decisions. But that's football and it's said that these things even out over the season so its 1-0 to the anti luck column on day one. In the final ten minutes Langford got second wind as Jets lost discipline and were let off in the final minute when a open goal was "scuffed".

In fairness to both sides they earned their point.
