Entertainment every year

Whilst this discussion board is knee deep in nostalgia (where are they now?, top goalscorer etc.) perhaps it would be the appropriate time to jog peoples' memories that us Canvey fans have had season long entertainment EVERY year since we joined the Ryman (or Isthmian as it was , I think).

Every year we have been in the promotion race until the last knockings of the season rather than being middle table with nothing to play for. The one exception was the year we were involved in excitement(?) at the other end of the table and, unfortunately, got relegated.

My point is, how many other sides, Arsenal, Man Utd or Liverpool apart, have enjoyed a nail biting season every year for the last nine years?

It would be nice now to round it all off with a promotion to the Conference, and perhaps another nine years of promotion fever.

The only season when we had nothing to play for come the last couple of months was our first season in the Ryman Premier 1999/2000. Although we were in the top 5 for much of the season, Daggers were by far and away the best side and virtually had the title won by March. Even so this was still an exciting season.

Six years previously we were in the Essex Senior League now we were playing the famous names of non league football such as Daggers, Aldershot, Enfield, St Albans and beating them!

Who could forget our home game against Daggers in the last days of the 20th century when over 2,000 watched us beat them 3-1. Absolute magic!

We are certainly privileged to have watched some exciting football at Park Lane over the years and long may it continue.

And most that excitment and nostalgia reported on for you to print off and keep. Something to show the grandchildren?

The first report that I can find was the opening game of the 98/99 season when we lost 4 - 0 at home to Maidenhead. We never realised back in those days that the website would become a history book of the football club. Shame we didn't archive all the pages in the way we do today.
