Glenn Speller and Ian Walmsley got the FansFocus.Com Essex Senior Cup off to a high-profile start on Tuesday as they drew out the sides for the First and Second Rounds of the E.C.F.A.’s flagship competition at the base of fellow partners, B.B.C. Essex.

Ian Walmsley, Chief Executive Officer of this year’s sponsors run by isdoo Media, pulled out the home teams while B.B.C. Essex’s Sports Correspondent Glen Speller was responsible for the away sides, constructing a First Round pairing between two of the Cup’s newcomers for 2007/08. Newly-formed Mauritius Sports & Pennant, who play their home matches at Aveley’s Millfield ground, will host Clapton who return to the competition after a three-year absence. That Round is scheduled to be completed by Saturday 15th September.

Meanwhile, in the Second Round, re-formed F.C. Clacton have been drawn away at the winners of the Mauritius vs Clapton clash and 2005 Finalists, Halstead Town, face a journey to either London A.P.S.A. or Eton Manor. Barkingside, who finished towards the top of the Essex Senior League last term, host Harwich & Parkeston in one of the longest trips in the competition.

Round Three is where the Step Four and above clubs enter the proceedings, including holders A.F.C. Hornchurch who were victorious over Great Wakering Rovers, 2-1, at Southend United’s Roots Hall in March. Southend themselves, along with Coca-Cola Championship club Colchester United, have re-entered for the current season, handing the smaller Senior clubs the potential opportunity to play at Football League grounds in what promises to be the most rewarding Senior Cup to date.

Some interesting ties there Ian.

However, these comments appear inaccurate compared with the draw....

"Meanwhile, in the Second Round, re-formed F.C. FC Clacton are at Bowers and Halstead are at Basildon Utd!!!!

Anyway....

Poor old Coachie has to travel to Stansted again for another cup game (They're there on Friday in the FA Cup), winners away to Southend Manor.

Barkingside will want a conclusion in the first match (2nd rd), as they wont want to have to travel to Harwich for a midweek replay.

I would imagine Doyley will be pleased with FC Clacton at home, again he wont want a replay.

Game of the draw for me is Barking v Concord.

When I said I thought Doyley would be glad to have FC Clacton at home, I meant as opposed to having to travel there midweek. I was not referring to the quality of FC Clacton.
