Hertford Town Hero Saves 3

Recommended Posts

Picked up a copy of London Lite newspaper today and saw Hertford Town's Pany Panayiotou featured on page 7.

Part of the article read as followes;

A man died after an explosion destroyed a building despite the efforts of an off-duty fireman who helped three other people escape. Flames engulfed a tatoo parlour and a flat above it when the blast ripped through a three-storey building in Lancaster Road, Enfield. Police were today seeking two men seen speeding away from the area about the time of the explosion. Firefighter Pany Panayiotou, 33, was awoken by the blast shortly after 5.30am on Saturday. He ran into the street and stopped approaching traffic until colleagues from Enfield fire station arrived.

To think that only a few hours later he turned out to play football!!!

There was another Hertford saviour that day as well - injured player Louie Lancaster was spongeman for the game, and his prompt action saved a tragedy.....

I just wanted to drop a quick note to thank your club for your co-operation and assistance provided yesterday. Firstly, I really appreciated the fact you allowed us to pay our respects to Steve Thorne, by means of a minutes silence and more importantly the quick thinking of players from both sides prevented another tragedy when our centre forward Karim Sesay was knocked unconcious. Louie Lancaster, your stand-in physio for the day, was particularly helpful all afternoon, but especially with

that incident. You'll be pleased to know that Karim got the all clear from the hospital last night and feels fine today.

I wish you all the best for the rest of the season, apart from when you visit Watchet Lane!!

Thanks again, Jason Weinrabe (Manager - Holmer Green FC)
