Saturday 11 August - Reading Town 1 Dorking 1

Dorking kicked off their new Combined Counties campaign with a solid draw against a good Reading Town side on Saturday, coming back from an early goal to score 8 minutes from time and end the game perhaps a shade disappointed they had not picked up all 3 points

New manager Tony Webb has seen his side have a good pre-season, and will generally be pleased with the way his new side has played. The team looked well organised and fit, a tribute to the Dorking coaching staff, and finished the match the stronger side after having the better of the second half

Only four players who finished the season with the club have re-signed, three of them featuring in this match, so Webb has done a good job in ensuring his side have gelled into a decent football unit. But it was one of the old boys who shone the most on Saturday, Kev Terry playing with real passion in an entertaining game of football

Reading Town took the lead after 8 minutes, Dorking's defence (uncharacteristically after a sound pre- season in which the side went over 460 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal) failing to play an offside trap correctly leaving the Town forward, Seaward, to put the home side ahead

Dorking came back well and thought they had equalised just before half time when a fine cross from Terry was met by the incoming Adie Butler whose shot flashed inches wide of the Reading post.

While the first half had been an even affair, the second was shaded by Dorking but it seemed like the elusive goal would evade Dorking as the time ticked on and chances and half chances were not converted. One magnificent double save from the Reading keeper saved what seemed like a certain equaliser for Chicks. But Dorking kept pressing and with 8 minutes to go were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. Up stepped ex Brook House striker Adam Pero whose bullet like shot left the keeper motionless and gave Dorking their well deserved equaliser.

Dorking pressed for the winner in the remaining minutes of an excellently refereed match by Mr Sotimirin, who added on 6 minutes of injury time, but almost lost the game at the death as they pressed, keeper John McBride showing excellent concentration to tip the ball round the post with the last action of the game as Reading Town broke with speed.

Dorking face Banstead on Tuesday night, 14 August, before their home FA Cup game against Sussex Division One side Selsey on Saturday, kick off at Meadowbank is 3pm. On Tuesday 21 August, Dorking travel to Horley Town for a CCL Premier Division game.

Dorking team vs Reading Town - John McBride, Darren Brown, Mark Fawke, Adam Roberts, Darren Fox, Joseph Maye, Kevin Terry, Andy Young, Adam Pero, Adie Butler, Andy Morris subs Justin Georgiou, Julian Philips, Ashley Myers, Daniel Kent, Tony Webb

Good match report Big JR.

Like yourselves we have had a bit of a difficult summer with 10 of last seasons squad moving on.(mention Bracknell Town at Scours Lane at your peril) With joint managers at the helm, we seem to have recruited some young hungry players who want to do well at this level of football.

Must admit I felt we were the sharper side in the first half but your guys certainly came out of the traps in the second half. Both keepers had assured games with your No 1 making a fabulous reflex save in the dying moments.

I must commend your gaffer for the swift removal (substitution) of your full back who was rather fortunate to stay on after his foolish act. Very impressed with your No 9 who held the ball up well and looked very busy.

I can't take the credit for the report Westy.

It's cut and pasted from Bryan's, (our press man), report.

There are problems with the DFC web-site at present, thats why I'm happy to cut and paste from there if some people can't access it !.
