non league today...

Uncle Urchin

Recommended Posts

up early and went in search of the noo sunday paper expecting to have trouble finding it on its first day published..not so...stood out a mile in morrisons and a pleasant surprise it was too.....bright and breezy on the outside and interesting and diverse articles from all points of view on the inside....and non of the usual biased fans clubs bollox that in my opinion have long since ruined the other rag that masquerades as an unbiased paper...

fletch had his usual boring proggieblog in much prominence but we'll forgive the old anorak that grin....and I for one shall now be buying it each week and once again shall enjoy the sunday non league round ups free from self serving editorial interference and full page articles by the dozen on afcw and fcu.....

well done watters and co...you have a winner imo....applause

The world has gone mad .....

As I approached Tescos I wondered whether they would have already sold out of the recommended publication as it was getting quite late. My heart skipped a beat as I saw half a dozen NLT's on the shelf. I gave the lady my copy at the checkout and she scanned it with her thingy. "I can't sell you this" she said "as it's not on our system". I was slightly taken aback. I offered to put a quid in the charity tin instead but she declined. "Come back tomorrow" she suggested.

So I went on to the local ethnic newsagent and picked up a copy there.

Unbelieveable!

Did anybody see Jeff King's interview in Non League Today?

Now I'm not Kingy's biggest fan but his comments about Billericay made me chuckle.

Quite a decent paper but they really need to work on their sentence structure and punctuation in their match reports. It was quite appalling at times.

Yes, but did your copy have any result in it? I bought mine this morning, got home, made a cup of tea, sat down and looked for the results and lo and behold, pages 50 to 52 had the games but no scores, except the Essex Senior League where apparently CB Hounslow were playing Tongham eight times, no score though. Did I get a rogue copy? Had to go out and get the old Non League Paper to check the scores.Despite all that, I liked the style of the paper, bit snappier than the NLP.

Unfortunately, local match reporters are hardly Henry Winter. A bit like putting Dean Allen in the West Ham first team and expeting a hat-trick from him.
Also, they do tend to have a home bias, rather than a balanced view of proceedings.. Nought we can do about that I am afraid.
As for the progammes, I am hardly going to get a few freebee holidays selling current NonLeague programmes on ebay and I ain't gonna be around in 50+ plus years when they may be worth something.
Now if I asked for people to send in pre-60 programmes.. smile
Seriously, they are just for our files and will probably auction a set off at the end of the season and send dosh to Charity.

Distribution needs to be sorted as well Coupy. Morisons in Stamford never had a delivery apparantly, so I had to buy the old NLP - best edition for ages - and it had all the Step 5 results!

I went on to the NLT website to find an e.mail address to send in reports, bits of news etc but couldn't find an appropriate link (unless I wanted to advertise). Surely something well placed on there like "Send us your news" with an e.mail address next to it would be useful instead of those blasted hideous forms you have to complete on the on-line version?

wells fargo were somewhat late delivering to stamford I understand...something to do with bandits in that area... grin

my morrisons had it on full display with people tearing at each other in the aisles trying to get a copy after scoups pre-edition advertising...agree the results page was a fck up but possibly a deliberate one on the first edition due to time constraints....
