James Smith red carded and McCarthy presumably injured as he wasn't in the squad today could leave us with some early selection problems.

Prior to the red card I thought Smith had an excellent game today and Hawkins looked solid, I suppose Ricketts has played centre back but of course he went off injured too. frown

Daish was thinking he might be out for the whole season in his interview on RK, so if does come back after 3 months, it will be a bonus.

We'd better hope Mcarthy (throat infection, I think, Slarti, incidentally) is fit for Tuesday though as we'll be missing Ricketts, Smith and MacDonald. Guess we'll go 3 at the back again? Hawkins, Mcarthy and Opinel, although we could always bring young Starkey in on the right & play Hawkins and Mcarthy in the centre defence.

Overall a fair first performance of the season, although we rather lost our way from the first 10 minutes until after their equaliser, which woke us up again - allied to the introduction of Sacha in place of George on the left.

Cant believe RK's suggestion that Eribenne looked good - thought he wasnt greatly involved until the last third of the game. There was no way he meant to play Moore in for the first goal - it was a mishit shot. He did look better in the final 30 minutes especially once Nade was alongside him, and was at least on hand to finish the second goal (Chas must have been close to a heart attack incidentally with his commentary on the 2nd goal!), and was unlucky to hit the post late on.

George didnt have a great game today and both he & Luke need to learn to be a bit stronger in the challenge - there was a noticeable difference once Sacha replaced George.

Smith had a sound game until his sending off (which appeared a little harsh to me unless he reacted when the Northwich player retailiated) and McPhee looked good, especially as he was playing in an unusual position for him. Tynan didnt really have much to do in goal, but did look confident in everything he had to do.

De Bolla improved as the game went on - like several others, his passing was a little wayward early on, but his stamina and energy showed through, and of course, he created the second goal.

Moore took his goal well and generally worked hard.

Overall, satisfied with 3 points, but room for improvement.

Indeed, unless Smith struck out after the retaliation, in which case his sending off was fair enough, then the ref took the easy way out. From what I saw, Smith went in with a bad but only bookable challenge, the guy got up and struck out and stepped on him as he went over, but didn't see Smith throw a punch or anything, so it should have been yellow for him and red for the other guy, but as I say, ref took easy option.

I thought Chukki had a decent game, though as you say most of that came in the final half hour. Long was tireless in midfield, but did think we lost in the middle for a while there.

I think the Smith challenge was because their guy took the ball off him moments before with a 'strong' challenge.

Overall a decent performance, couldn't really ask for more with the heat being what it was, meaning the players couldn't play to their full potential.

Chukki and Moore look to have a good understanding up front, and the midfield looks quite strong with Barret in. I think Purcell was rather nervous today, he didn't seem to want to take players on.

McPhee did alright when he came on, and he did brilliantly to win the ball back after a poor corner towards the end.

The defence looked a bit like they lacked understanding today, but that will surely come with time.

Points wise and overall performance Good start to the season but as you say with consequences....

Lets hope Macdonald's injury isnt too bad.

Thought he was having a good game though as the whole team in parts. There was some tiredness showing around the half time approach but we did pick up the game after that equaliser.

I did notice that Nade and Chukki played well together as did Chukki and Moore lets hope that can continue throughout.

Well glad to get this season underway with a win lets hope we can get our players back fit sooner rather than later.

Good win!

James Smith and Peter Hawkins were great yesterday. Agree with what has already been said about the sending off. It was a bad challenge but he didn't seem to retaliate against the Northwich player.

Downer about the injuries and suspension but it was a promising start to the season.

How are you glad that any player is out for three games, maybe he has been told not to take a touch and just to clear his lines, as you hear daish on the sideline telling them.
Smith was sent off for, as the ref stated an airbourne challenge. It seemed a bit harsh should have been a yellow i saw no retaliation.Hawkins and smith had a brilliant game and have done so with macca all pre-season, that back three have worked well together.I thought the whole team played well and fought for each other, moore and purcell need to toughen up other than that a good win and a good starting line up. Good choice daishy smile
