No it hasn't, that was in 1946. The club is the same, the name is different.

If I commit a crime and then change my name I can't then say the crime was committed by another person.

Can people please stop saying this is a different club.

It's the same club. I have avoided the pre season friendlies with a bit of boycott attitude.

I went today and within two minutes after they gave us a goal, all was normal. Watched the same Fleet, with the same group as normal (apart from the twee one) and we got three points. All is good.

36 quid on a shirt, 10 quid in the bar, 2 quid on the 50-50, worth it for three points.

McPhee looks top.

The real proof that it is exactly the same club was that we started well then the moment we scored we stopped playing football, then when they equalised we played a bit more got the lead back and still contrived to give them a chance to take a point at the end.

Only the Fleet can do this because they can make hard work of beating anyone.

Didn't say it was a different club, but it IS of course a different name and it WAS of course our First League game as Ebbsfleet United. on the subject of the game I thought we showed promise, as we have done in pre season friendlies and we showed great spirit at the end hanging on with 10 men for a well deserved 3 points. We played some good football last season, but I reckon this season could be even better.

This may sound like an excuse, but I should imagine August being holiday season hampered the attendance today.

Good result, average performance, until it went silly.Finished with a lot of hard work and spirit which is great.

Sasha should have been on from the start, Purcell is ok as his understudy and no more.

Moore scored a goal then spent the rest of the game being out-muscled as he was last season. (Not strong enough still for the Conference)

We looked much better up front when Nade came on.

Let's just hope we get something out of tonight's game - it will be very difficult with a makeshift defense.

The attendance was as expected - about 1,000

It is our average attendance, why expect more. Also, why expect the new people who are coming to the area to watch us. I'm sure if they are into football they will support another club already and continue to watch them.

Fans don't change their team very often, if I moved, I'd still support The Fleet, not some other club who play in the town I moved to.

I'd like to think so Bernard but I think not. I thought the club gave vouchers and discounts to local football clubs or organisiations or am I wrong?

Probably right. I still supported the Fleet when I was in Exeter for 4 years as a student, attending all Fleet matches within reach: Yeovil, Minehead, Bideford, Weymouth, Bath .. However, when I wasn't going home to watch the Fleet or travelling to a relatively local venue to watch them, I did go to every Exeter City home game - & the odd away game during a promotion season, as did loads of students (& quite a few staff) from the university, who traditionally used to stand on open terracing behind the goal where the huge new stand is now. I'd guess quite a few teams with a big student population still benefit from this, but then students, by & large haven't grown lead in their backsides & they don't have to worry about justifying the amount of leisure time they set aside to do what they like & not what is expected by a partner & family.

Thanks for confirming my theory guys

Like I say, there are approx 1,000 Fleet supporters out there and no more

If we were top of the league it would be different attendances of course - the casuals crawl out of the woodwork.

We saw last year that we over-achieved hugely, which was great, but even being so close to play-offs and having a striker like Charlie, our own actual support was only approx 1,000 (higher gates were when visitors brought more)

Fever Pitch writer and Arsenal fan, Nick Hornaby, regularly used to go and watch Cambridge United whilst studying at the local University.
