STOP PRESS !!!! EDGWARE TOWN STAYING AT WHITE LION

Recommended Posts

Edgware Town WILL be kicking off this season at the White Lion Ground after news reached the club that Barretts homes pulled out of the deal to buy the ground.

This is superb news and means the club can continue playing at its home of 68 years years.

More news to follow!

Now we can really give Div 1 North a go smile Not sure how this is going to affect the playing side, ie, will they have a playing budget back or not.

Its great news for us the fans though, have to be honest and say I was not looking forward to playing at Harrow Borough, nothing against the ground or the people there, but its not OUR ground, and the White Lion for all its faults is HOME.

More news to follow when I get it, as the club have not made a statement yet, I got this news from Mr Gregory last night.

Gavin - That's excellent news but what about Eagles1981's petition, will it become null and void.

And we were not looking forward to playing our 'home' games in Harrow. Fair play to HBFC for helpiing us in our hour of need, and I am sure the offer will always be there, but there really is no place like home.

Its been a mad summer for the club off the field, not knowing if we were coming or going. No matter if the club have a budget or not, this IS going to help us on the pitch, as I am sure the players are much happier plyaing at the WLG then at strange venue and having to get used to that as a home ground.

Hopefully the club can move on from here, obviously the situation with the ground will raise its head in the not too distant future, but in the meaning it can give the club some breathing space to look at other long term alternatives, whilst playing matches at our home for 68 years.

Did you keep most of your squad? I read on the Leverstock website that they had signed one of your players from last season.

Lee Gardner has gone to Leverstock after training with Conf South Maidenhead Utd.

Lee is a decent enough player, but he lost his form last season, and was gradually kept out of his place at left central back by Jason Fernee.

Looks like Leverstock have signed some handy players, isnt Swaysland one of the best players Ruislip Manor had?

As for Edgware no other players have let, in fact the club have actaully brought new players to the club, for eg Chris Ingram who was at Oxhey Jets last season and played against us in the Prem Cup Final, he is a handy central defender.

Oh its you again spursfan, asking questsion that I dont have answers to. I have NO, I repeat NO idea of what has gone on behind the scenes, I was only told last night that Barretts have pulled out.

I dont know for eg if the club have already paid Harrow ground rent for the season and if so are they in the right to get the money back or not?

I dont know if this means that the clubs backers will be back on board and if this will mean a reserve team back at the club, I have no idea if the players are now going to get paid or not.

I have no idea about any of these questions, but I will ask and hopefuly found out in due course.

Even the message on the Edgware website seems a bit vague, not giving any reasons other then barretts pulling out the statement is as follows...

Yes it's true. Edgware Town will play all their games at the White Lion next season after the developers backed out. Lets make next season count and get behind the boys who have stayed loyal to the club

im not expecting you to know Gavin, I dont mean to pressure you, sorry!

I just ask some questions as a more detached viewer, and people can ignore or think about the subject raised as they choose.

A proper fan like yourself is going to be elated at staying at the home ground, quite rightly too.

Alarm bells might ring if the first team sponsor is retirement homes.com or toys r us.

This is from another forum..

Harrow officials were definately counting on any money coming from Edgware in their budget discussions by the way I overheard some of them talking in Northwood's bar on Tuesday night. With some of the players listed in the program for the shield game, I think a considerable wedge would be required

....

I hope that Edgawre have not 'burnt their bridges' with Harrow Borough, just in case a groundshare is needed again in the future. Whlist very happy that Edgware are staying at the White Lion Ground, I would be naive to think that this is the end of the matter, as its most certainly not. There is nothing stopping the development company from finding another buyer and then Edgware being booted out, lets hope this does not happen, specially during the season.

The club NEED to look as I said at long term alternatives, and hope in the meantime they have enough breathing space to be able to do this whlist playing at the clubs home of 68 years.

If Harrow were indeed looking at players and using some of the cash which Edgware have given them for the groundhshare, then it could be that Edgware may not get the money back, I am not sure about those detials
