Paul Axon

I have not seen him so can't really comment on the specifics but Wenger may have a point insofar as this time last season Robinson was for many the best thing since sliced bread;and there is a massive differnece between a few friendly games with sun on your back ;and performing on a wet and cold Tuesday night mudbath pitch against ruthless Ryman seasoned defenders.

Lets hope he can perform throughout and continue to grow in status -thats all one can realistically expect.

Several points, although Paul has been given a contract it does not mean that he will solely be dragged around to sit on first team bench, we hope that Paul is treated well. He still trains with reserves at times and I’m sure will be used there. Like football at all levels things are promised or suggested only to fall flat or conveniently forgotten, time will tell. I think, at last and albeit because of financial restrictions, Margate sees there is some potential in the young local players they have. The reality is that our first team is not what some want but we have to except that MFC have to build from the bottom. Paul deserves a chance, the chance to develop and the chance to see if he can take that step. This gives a huge lift to the rest of the youngsters who otherwise see the u18s as the end of their club football careers. There will always be names coming up and good and otherwise thought of them, at 18 they are not the finished item, Margate seem to now be grasping the nettle and interested in developing their potential.

Good Luck to any that take that step.

Two general points:

* There is a big gulf between Kent League Division Two and the Ryman Premier.

* Robin Trott knows that three or four bad defeats can mean him getting the sack - or at the very least serious grief from the fans. That kind of pressure can lead to a cautious outlook. It's all very well people pontificating about giving young players their chance, but it's not their job on the line if it goes wrong. Clubs usually only put kids in their team if they have no money.

Yep, and of course we are not scouts. Someone watches and decided that a player, on Margates books or any other team, has something worth looking at. I can not see that signing a couple of ex u18s to Margates first team will change the course of MFCs fortunes, and who knows they might be ok. I still say good luck to any young player who RT and others gives a chance to. The u18s and reserve teams are a filter to cherry pick and develope. Football would be a poorer game if clubs like Margate only went for proved players, and of course Margate have been there, done that.
