Buntingford comments on the Hoddy game from NonLeagueDaily.com

Buntingford Town marked their Herts Charity Shield debut by providing excellent fare at The Bury in Saturday`s first round tie with Molten Spartan South Midlands League Division One outfit Hoddedon Town.

At the final whistle delighted team boss Paul Attfield (pictured) confirmed to nonleaguedaily: “We were good value for our 2-0 win and look forward to an October away tie in the second round with another South Midlands team, this time Premier Division Oxhey Jets as a reward.”

He continued to say that Buntingford went into the game with a fragmented pre-season due to the demands of the annual Dana Youth Cup alongside the non-availability of many of last season's first-team squad due to holiday commitments. This made the manner of performance and the way it was delivered much more pleasing and augers well for the fast-approaching Herts County League Premier Division season when again his outfit would target pole position.

The Bury faithful saw the Bluebirds take the lead through Tom Malins after 41 minutes and consolidated after 80 minutes through a firmly-placed header from Will Turk which impressed Attfield, not only by the fitness levels provided, but by the enthusiasm which capped this excellent showing the longer the game went on.

The other plus marks were the keeping of a clean sheet by home custodian Damion Williamson during a contest that both sides enjoyed good spells of possession throughout.

Your own comments, NF? Did you play... how worried are you?

I came on just before half time. To summise we gifted them the first goal, didn't take the chances we had, gave the ball away far too easily.. I'll stop there.

I'm very worried ... but less about my fitness! We were a couple short and a bit unbalanced, a couple who have looked good pre season had off games.

Hoddy match report on the website is pretty accurate.

Thanks. Pre-season games, even charity shield ones, don't really give much of a clue.

Just seen Horace's post. So it was Awad who scored just before getting sent off. Was the far end of the pitch and it was chucking it down. That's my excuse anyway!

Loads of bookings, as well as the send off. Anyone want to guess which Broxbourne midfielder was the first player into the ref's notebook?

An interesting topic.. Wader where do u see Bigg Town bearing in mind the current plans??????? And Robbie'O where do u see Bigg United whilst we are on the subject?? I think there is too many Step 4/5/6 clubs in bedfordshire for them all to survive much longer at their current level.. Although i recon the next Bedfordshire club to go out of existence will be almost certainly Barton Rovers.. Once the money goes they are left with nothing surely!!
