Hanwell Town 2 Sport London e Benfica 0

Recommended Posts

I'll start a new thread for this game I went to this afternoon.

I think both sides were missing players, SLB as Eagles had already said so while Hanwell had a youngish side and I only recognised three of their players. I presume SLB played their strongest side in the first half and it did pretty well. Enthusiasitc and energetic all the team harried and hustled well and tried to move the ball around. The number 9 looked lively but lacked composure in front of goal when he skilfully made a chance for himself. Defensively they were sound although a little over elaboration at times meant they would get caught in possession. The keeper had solid handling but his distribution was poor throughout the game. I also thought SLB's dead ball delivery was poor - too rushed.

Second half they changed the team around and Hanwell scored twice from poor marking at corners. The SLB team kept trying but they lost their rhythm and whereas first half they were playing as a team and linking well in the second the front players were relying n a trick or a lucky break to get through. It did nearly work on one occasion but the player shot from a narrow angle when a ball across might have been better. Also one or two nasty tackles crept into the game with two SLB players perhaps fortunate it was only a friendly. Hanwell got stronger as the game went on but SLB looked good in the first half and were far from disgraced.

Lato - thought it might amuse you to know that the reported scorer of two of Leverstock Green's goals today was "Mick Swaziland" !

Very good...I see he's banging the goals in already for Leverstock. I tip them to do very well this year.

Lato

Thanks for the summary. Pretty accurate from what I can gather from the manager.

Apparently there were only 6 first team players in the first half for SLB from last year. The rest were made up of the young Sunday squad players who physically aren't there yet as their season starts in September.

The second half was made up of 9 Sunday Team players with Helder playing the full 90 minutes because he needed the match practise. Yahya also played, albeit out of position, again to get match practise.

All in all José Viana, the manager, says that there were alot of positives to take out of the game considering the young talent we have at the club. He knew there was always going to be the danger of suffering corners in the 2nd half. When they are all 100% fit, there are a few names you will be seeing in the first team.

Any players stood out for you Lato apart from the ones you mentioned?

Surprise, surprise, I gather this was an issue last season.

The manager told me that the kids were getting hammered in some reckless tackles where the Hanwell No.5 received a yellow card. Benfica also recieved a yellow card, I think for reacting to being fouled but not getting the decision.

He was injured in the game. We also had 17 year old Nathan caught after again the No.5 made his presence felt!

Hanwell Town were taking it alot more serious than SLB!

How do you know all of this if you are in Macau, did you set up a live telephone link to Reynolds Field, Elton John style. I can't believe your Manager would want to spend his Saturday evening on the phone to you giving a blow by blow report particularly if he was ringing you.

Obviously I don't know players names but I thought the number eight in midfield for the first half looked a useful player. The number seven I think he was the skipper also knew what he was doing. The guy with the 'Kanu' haircut who i think came on as a substitute upfront was quick and had some skill although he commited a poor challenge. I also thought the little blonde haired full back who came on in the second half showed good awareness and anticipation but was maybe a little light weight.

Yes there was a lot of physical stuff from both sides, you are right Hanwell's number five was giving it out a lot mainly as he was very slow and very one footed. Referee was giving a lot of free kicks out which stiffled the flow of the game.

You're up then, what's the time in Lisbon and how are your family.

Lato, Not sure who you mean about the blonde full back but I think I know the other guys you are talking about. Was it the Kanu guy that got the yellow card? If so that was Bruno. He was injured on Thursday night and I was surprised that he played. Our physios have to be the best in the world for him to play after the injury he received.

I thought we are an hour behind the rest of Europe, are you actually in Lisbon or elsewhere in Portugal, I suppose you're watching the Charity Shield on tv.
