Sad News For Nicky Gyoury

GarySTFC

Recommended Posts

The centre back has damaged ankle ligaments and has been ruled out for the rest of the season after last nights game. Didn't actually see what caused the injury, but an overly aggressive tackle is most likely.

Two visits to Maidenhead, two 'out for the season' injuries.

So we're thugs are we?

On what are you basing this well observed criticism?

OK so you had a player carried off with a bad injury, a player we applauded off BTW.

Do you recall any of our players receiving a card for the disgraceful foul? No, precisely. Do you even recall the Slough free kick that followed? No, niither do I.

Players get injured as football's not yet a non-contact sport. We've had players injured this season yet I don't automatically see the other team as knuckle dragging cretins every time.

I'd like to know what the yellow card count was for each side. About square I reckon and we had one booked for kicking the ball away.

It wasn't a dirty game so get over it.

If that wasn't a dirty performance from Maidenhead last night I'd hate to see one that is. I can't recall another game this season where the tackles were quite as limb threatening!

If that's what it takes to succeed then fair play, if that's not a contradiction <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Speedy recovery, Nick, by the way.

Serious case of sour grapes here I think.

The ball came over from a corner. Both sets of players went for the ball, one of the maidenhead players made contact with the ball which was cleared off the line and went out for a throw in & your player went down. This was approx 10 yards in front of me and I couldnt see anything controversial. The referee & linesman didn't see anything and none of your players complained. If it's ligament damage then it's as likely to have happened by him falling badly as by any injury.

The only thuggery I recall from from the pre-season friendly was from your players post match who wrecked the away changing room.

We had a strong team out last night & looked up for it. Only you will know whether you had a full team out and what their motivation as I tend not to take notice of the lower leagues. However, if you've any pretence at getting promotion you will have to play a lot better than that.

Best of luck for the rest of the season to all the realistic Slough fans.

No sour grapes ScottishMagpie. I was very impressed with how sharp Maidenhead looked and they should have been four or five up at half time. The penalty we got wouldn't have been given in a million years had the score been 0-0 or the fans hadn't appealed. Slough didn't get what they deserved because what they deserved was a five or six goal defeat.

I wasn't actually referring to the tackle that left Nick out for the remainder of the season though as that was down the far end and I couldn't see a thing. There were though enough examples of over enthusiastic tackling nearer that I could see that you almost expected to result in bad injuries. Quite often a foot was left in on Slough players tackling for the ball.

It doesn't alter the result or the fact that Maidenhead deserved to win so like I said, no sour grapes. However, the fact that Slough lost also doesn't change the fact that Maidenhead's tackling was at times potentially likely to cause serious injury.

I think some people are missing the point. One swallow doesnt make a summer, or else you could draw the conclusion that we would be TOP of the premier league if promoted - sorry when promoted, because we beat canvey. The simple fact is that we had a mare and Maidenhead played well. First to the ball in midfield, sharper to react, and if they lost the ball in a hurry to regroup and tackle back.

On the other hand they are used to that pitch, which we couldn't deal with, (MUCH better condition than I expected). We had both fullbacks and Daly off form. Daly is always stretched againt pace, and with nick going off we didnt seem to have a cover centre back. Daly is always dominant against the high ball.

Our midfield was weak, Bubb had a mare. Again he seems to be happy to blaze at goal from 40 yards rather than take a man on and get to the by line. One of their goals came directly from his only attempt to beat a man, and he stopped trying offensively after that

Now we can concentrate on the league !!!! Saturday is the key - we need to start a winning run of 4 or 5 games, especially away from home. That will put pressure on the rest. No team is playing that well and the second promotion spot is still wide open.

Its funny how we all saw the same game, but have differing views. Scouter thought Bubb was good. I agree with you Paul that he had a poor game---however I recall him trying to beat players several times--always unsuccessfully.

We are in with a chance of the second promotion spot, but the points that will get second place will not be as high as previous years. Normally the top 2 teams average 2 points per match---Northwood will manage that (probably easily), but 2nd place will be well short.

Thought Bubb had his worst game for us in my opinion. One run in the first half and he lost the ball for the third.

As many say - it's a one off game and you can't say whether we'd hold our own or not. Personally I think we'd be fine and finish top ten as we know the players can play a lot better, its a local derby and we had Howard, Rocastle, Hodges, Barrowcliff, James, Gilkes and Spencer out for one reason or another.

Anyway roll on Saturday and lets get three points - hope the clear up of the papers going well at York Road :-)

Also good luck to Nick!

So if I've got this right we were dirty last night because we supposedly injured one of your players last pre-season?

Your argument is extremely weak, to say the least.

Oh and we won because we tackled more, tried harder and the Ref wore a B&W shirt.

Why Ambassador, you are spoiling us?

An extremely balanced individual with huge chips on both shoulders.

No your right B&W its just a coincidence that on the two previous occasions we'v played you in each of the games one of our players have been seriously injured. You do whatever it takes to win a match, your players dont think of the consequences but you win,i suppose thats all that matters to you people. Look mate this arguement could go on forever we will never agree, lets just leave it at that-before one of your players puts me in a wheel chair.

I think our league record speaks for itself when looking at any advantage we may get from being 'used to the pitch'

Home W4 D3 L7
Away W7 D6 L2

Generally we are appalling at home this year, this may or may not be partly due to the state of the playing surface but it certainly doesn't do us any favours.

Any more straws you want to clutch at?

Does this mean Adrian Brown will finally get a chance? Ricky Browne is crap! He cant run or tackle, he just pushes, yet he's safe in the them because his uncle is manager. How far is Howard off fitness? Just think, we let McNally go......

Is Browne finally on his way.......

Roughly a month ago;

Defenders:

Anthony Howard - injured

Steve Daly

Nick Gyoury

Paul Barrowcliff

Ricky Browne

Adrian Brown

Tony McNally

Dean Palmer

Now;

Defenders:

Anthony Howard - injured

Paul Barrowcliff - injured

Nick Gyoury - injured

Steve Daly

Dean Palmer

Ricky Browne

Adrian Brown

Of the four left fit Daly, Palmer and Browne are probably in their poorest form of the season and Brown appears to be out of favour. O.K. Rocastle and Wilkinson can fill in at left and right back but the injuries are all relatively long term and we now look very exposed in that area.

Radders list highlights the weakness at the back 100%. A real problem if we are to pick up the points away needed for pormotion. Let in one soft goal on our travels and its on the back foot in every sense that match.

The injuries list virtually garantee a game for players out of form.
