Dorking's Pitch

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry JR and anyone connected with Dorking but i've got to say it....

Your pitch is completely shocking and i don't say that lightly. I don't know what work has been done to it, possibly the goalmouths but the rest has obviously been totally neglected and it's in a totally awful state for the start of the season. To say i was truly shocked is an understatement to say the least. We were there with our U18's last night

I was nearly not gonna let my boys play on it last night but they had all made the trip so didn't want to disappoint them. Got beat 4-0 by the stronger side who managed to put their chances away but we put in a good performance for a side that has only been together for under 2 weeks.

I thought our 1st team going there 2nd game of the season would be handy as it would have some grass on it and be ok. Now i'm wishing it was December so it would be softer. It's very dangerous in my eyes

I dont know why your criticising the pitch, its been that way for years, dustbowl in the summer and bog in the winter.Slightly rutted in places, perhaps.

It cant have got worse this summer, whats different this year to previous seasons?

The pitch is of the same standard as the rest of the ground and facilities, some of the best in the area.

I will pass your comments on to the powers that be, though I'm afraid the holiday season is upon us as far as the powers that be are concerned !

Oh - Here's a brief report from the DFC site:-

"Wed 1 August - Dorking U18s 4 Banstead U18s 0

Comfortable win over Banstead for Steve Upfold's side. Next Wednesday they play Epsom also at Meadowbank."

With regard to my previous post.

One of the powers that be has been made aware of this thread, to his dismay.

I think it will now be DFC's aim to compare pitches at all DFC's away games.

Could be interesting. A couple of club names have already been mentioned to me which might come under very close scrutiny !

I can only comment on your pitch as it's the only one in the league i've seen so far JR. If i felt anyone elses was bad after being on it then i'd day so. It's just my opinion, but with the rainfall we've had over this 'Summer' then i would have expected it to be far better

Nice one Spurs fan.

We could have asked the MVDC for a grant, but the length of time we would have had to hold our breath might be a bit daunting !

Its a fair point thats been made though.

I havent seen the pitch close up lately but its always been a mare.

Have the powers considered what impact all the games will have on the pitch?

First team, Bookham, then the Youth side (s) and girls. Games and Training.

will they all play on there or are some up the hill?

If the big sponsorship comes through perhaps the surface will get a bit of priority.

Dorking Girls only used the main pitch last season when the top pitch was waterlogged.

Tony Webb takes training up on the recreation park.

The under 18's also train up on the recreation park.

Since the turf was laid in the goal-mouths and sections re-seeded, no games were played on the Meadowbank pitch until the PSF's started.

Though I have to admit that Meadowbank can be a nightmare. This is mainly a physical geographical problem. The North American dust-bowl in the summer and the trenches of the Somme in the winter !

It would be lovely to.......

(a) Know we have seurity of tenure.

(B) The finance to completely rip up, set up proper drainage and re-lay.
