Hertford Town 3 Bedford Town Res 0

Recommended Posts

An interesting game against SSMFL Div 1 newcomers Bedford Town Reserves. Hertford won at a stroll against well drilled but toothless opposition. Even without Kevin Cooper (on holiday), and with a number of reserve team players, Hertford were too strong for their young opponents. In a game played in a really good spirit, Hertford took the lead when PANAYIOTIS PANAYIOTOU, temporary wearer of Cooper's No. 10 shirt tapped in from close range. Ryan Redford turned away convinced he'd scored on 36 minutes, but his lob bounced a tad too high and cleared the bar. Hertford made four half time substitutions, and two of the new players, reserves Alex Scriven and RORY BRIEN, combined to make it 2-0 on 66 minutes, Brien's strike from a great pass by Scriven was top drawer.

Hertford's third came with practically the last kick of the match when another sub, LOUIS LANCASTER tapped home a rebound.

It will be interesting to see how the Eagles reserves do in Div 1 - they will be alright against the likes of Kentish Town who play Brazil 1970 type football, but others will perhaps be too tough for them!

Any others results tonight anyone? I reckon Bedford will struggle after what I saw tonight. I have said all along that Cheshunt reserves and Bedford Utd reserves would not be a threat in Div 1 during the forthcoming season. I would guess that both will finish outside the top 6 so I think Hoddy can stop going on and moaning about it now.

From what I gather, Bedford Town first team would struggle against their own reserves this coming season. And I'm not bigging up their reserves by saying that!

Ruislip Manor 5 (five!) Wembley 1. Very entertaining game which had a real competitive edge to it throughout. The first half started and finished with two well taken goals by Aaron McLeish White, with some very tasty tackling in between. The two managers got a stern talking to at half time by legendary tall welsh referee Keith Chamberlin, which resulted with the two teams kicking the ball rather than each other in the second half. Wembley had the better of the first 15 minutes, without ever troubling Dave Godfrey in the Manor goal. Then a further three goal burst by Manor killed the game. Wembley snatched a late consolation goal in the last minute, but the new look Manor outfit under Francis Joseph are shaping up quite nicely.
