Can't see it mentioned anywhere so in case it's of interest...

1 Matt Bowles

2 Justin Skinner

3 Ricky Lunn / Lutton

4 Paul Axon

5 Danny Young

6 Ben Payne

7 Steve McKimm

8 Dean Standen

9 Karl Barron

10 Rob Haworth

11 Shane Suter

Subs used...

James Pinnock

Jimmy Jackson

Mark Watson (ex Bournemouth, West Ham, Sutton etc)

Darren Vanhinsbergh

Charley Side

Nick Bagley

Scott Chalmers-Stevens

Won 3-0 with goals from Haworth, Pinnock and Watson. Sitting behind some players in the second half and they said that Watson had signed - looked a bit slow but a real powerhouse. Quick look on Google shows he scored masses of goals for Sutton but it was a few years back, haven't looked enough to find out where he's been more recently.

Interesting re:Watson.

All good stuff but crikey we will have some forwards.

Macguire not there today then

Its the centre defence that worries me .Who is Danny Young ,and did Payne look the part ?

We do seem critically short of defenders to me

This may be correct-some stuff from Isthmain forum.

The Mark Watson who played for Newport IoW is a former Bournemouth player, but is not to be confused with the much-travelled 33 year old (D.o.B. 28/12/73) centre forward who is best known in Isthmian circles for his spells with Sutton United either side of a pro career with West Ham and Bournemouth. Assuming this is the Mark Watson now playing for Margate, he has also played for Bromley, Worthing and Not Police in recent seasons, possibly Kingstonian too.

Has he deffo signed do we know

Thank goodness-maybe we will have a central defender in Payne after all -can he head the ball ?

Maybe the RT Masterplan is to convert Watson from a striker into our commanding centre half- stranger things have happened ?

Whilst i think Jay would do a good job alongside someone in central defence, does it make us short of cover in midfield

Reading this post from the Isthmian forum-are we sure MW is not Darren's brother (or is it Darren in disguise ):

Ah Mr Watson resurfaces! :o)

Started with us at Sutton, then has been at West Ham, Orient, Bournemouth, Welling, Woking, Aldershot, Us again, Bromley, Met Police, Kingstonian and then Us again. Unfortunately for him, he's only ever really scored goals in our colours. Everywhere else he's been, he's never really seemed to have had much of an impact.

And despite having a record of almost a goal every other game for Sutton (think he got about 105 for us) he wasn't the most popular player we've ever had! Mainly as he was one of those forwards who could get us 20 a season, yet the sitters he used to miss meant he should've got closer to 40!

Also doesn't do himself any favours with his habit of insisting he's fit to play when clearly not. As he then just ambles around, completely uninvolved, looking like he doesn't give a [****!!****]. Which means fans have a go at him and he then retreats further into his shell and plays even worse.

Mind you-fresh beginnings and all that, so everyone has an opportunity; and i do think RT favours those with a work ethic.

On the positive front, here are a couple of further posts from Isthmian forum-particularly interesting re:the comment about playing at centre half.

My post suggesting the same in a post above may not have been entrirely barking mad perhaps

'Strange to find a player wanting to play when unfit - generally we dish out a contract, then the "injuries" appear!

Played for us (Worthing) for nothing for a large chunk of last season. Despite a certain reputation, was one of the few non Sussex-based players that gave a [****!!****] last season. A shame that we never saw him fully fit because there's a decent player in there somewhere. Showed some ability as a centre half too ?'

'Agree the guy has ability. Something like 105 goals in 220 games for us shows that. I think maybe the playing unfit is just his desire to play and to perhaps 'prove' himself in some way.

I've been driven mental by him on more occasions than I'd care to mention, but I have to say, when he's fit, focused and on his game, he really is a very good centre forward.

The sad thing is, he's remembered at Sutton as much for his slightly clumsy, bumbling style and missed sitters as he is for those 100+ goals.'
