Apologies I have missed your terms of reference.......but what are they.....? or do you just like asking questions ? and, if so, why ?

A pint of Strongbow is £2.70 ( I think !) if that helps ?
...and if you go for a p*ss at full time....you could be wading through up to two inches ( depending on the level of the water table !!)......and llamas are bigger than frogs !

Looks as though it will be Charlton reserve squad at Stonebridge Rd as it appears their first team will be at Aldershot tomorrow:

"Charlton Athletic have confirmed today that their full first team squad will be playing in Paul Shrubb's testimonial match tomorrow evening. The game kicks off at 7.45pm at the Recreation Ground and tickets will be available on the night."

Not that it matters, I'll be there to watch the fleet and to have my first look at some of the new signings and possibles.

I have to agree with you Busta. That second class goes even lower with the Beeb. Last week when we played at home to Millwall I didn't hear one mention of our game, The Beeb gave out the other Kent club fixtures (ie Ramsgate and others), for that Tuesday. I made a point of listening out for our match as a mate of mine thought the match was on a Wednesday. When it wasn't mentioned I also had doubts as to which day the Millwall match was to be played, even though it was on the Ebbsfleet site for Tuesday. (Thought the site might not have been updated).

If that is intentional - good work!
If not, you'd do well to heed the advice of your elders*

(*advance apologies to both Hirsty and yourself, I'm just making a somewhat obvious assumption)

I was just asking a question !! I seem to recall that you were doing some research for someone ? Hence my original question regarding your terms of reference.......

Yes Ray, something is amiss. I have just had a call from a friend of mine up from East Sussex. He wanted to know what's going on, as Charlton are playing Aldershot. He thought our game was cancelled for tonight. He was really miffed that he may have made the journey for nothing.

Again on Radio Kent this morning the three clubs that had the most cover and interviews were Welling, Gills and Charlton a passing comment was made about Charlton second eleven being used to playing at Ebbsfleet ground.

And another gripe. Dartford place a huge ad in the freebie paper advertising their next home game. What have we got? Nothing. No wonder we can't improve our gates. Does Ebbsfleet not have a Press or Promo officer.

OK guys, over to you. diabolo

More from Pardew from CA webiste:

"In an ideal world I'd love to field strong sides in both matches, but the game at Aldershot is also a testimonial for Paul and I therefore feel obliged to send the stronger team there."

He added: "In all honesty the side going to play Ebbsfleet will be a youth team, but I would say that it will give those Charlton fans who do go along to Stonebridge Road the opportunity to see the strength and depth of our up and coming players."

As the testimonial game is in aid of a former Aldershot player suffering from the incurable motor neurone disease, his need to have a good level of oppostion, ie first team players and therefore to attract a big attendance, is greater than those of supporters of EUFC to see the same opposition. I hope that a tidy sum is raised for him.

That being said, you really would have thought that our links with CAFC would have ensured us entertaining a team at least partly made up of first team "stars". Why can we never achieve a high level of regular players in a visiting team for a friendly? It has been like this for well over a decade now. It has happened with Spurs, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Charlton before (on more than one occasion including Jacko's testimonial game) and no doubt others too. Even the first 3 clubs mentioned managed a solitary first teamer (admittedly a player perhaps by then out of regular contention).

If Boreham Wood, who host Arsenal reserve games, can get the Premiership players to turn out and Stevenage can do the same with Spurs, why can't we with Charlton? Surely it isn't too difficult to arrange a date when a visiting team isn't, as it were, double booked? And wasn't it mentioned that part of the arrangement to host the CAFC reserves would lead to a friendly being played with the first team, or is that yet another local urban myth too?

When I first posted on here several weeks ago that Charlton were playing two matches the same evening, a CAFC supporter responded that their website had promised that both teams would be a mixture of players and be strong sides. Seems that they have had second thoughts.

Can anyone throw any light on our inability to organise a top level opponent who provides a team consisting of their better players?

It is my understanding that the date for tonight's game was changed to accommodate Charlton, so any enquiries about "double booking" should be addressed to the Valley.

It is also my understanding that the revenue from a game between the Fleet and the Charlton first team sqaud was an integral part of the financial arrangments which were agreed when it was arranged for their reserve team to play at Stonebridge Road.

I am sure the lines of communication between our financial gurus and Alex Varney's dad and his chums will be red hot as we speak.

PS Tune in to the John Warnett Show on Radio Mosdcow tomorrow at 7.45(96.7 FM). I will be reporting on tonight's game and wittering on about the new season for us generally.

PPS Good luck to Paul Shrubb. I hope he gets a bumper gate.

I can. APs point about putting out a stronger side against Aldersh!t, is to help raise money by encouraging a larger gate. As for who we play in pre-season friendlies is arranged by the respective clubs. However, as for who plays in these sides is entirely down to the oppositions manager. We can't pick Charltons side, likewise, they can't choose ours.

At this time of year it doesn't matter anyway, it's all about fitness and trialists. I'm sure Northwich Victoria will be sending there strongest side on the 11th.
