Millwall matchquiet on here

Recommended Posts

Won 2-0 - Eribenne header early on from corner, then fine Luke Moore strike from (I think) his 1st touch after he cam on after 62 minutes.

Good solid performance all round although I'd be worried if I were a Millwall fan tonight - they created next to nothing and I only recall them making Lance make 1 save and that was only about 10 minutes from time.

Lance had a couple of rushes of blood tonight , coming to the top of his box, when there was no need, but a combination of good defending from others & poor finishing from Millwall got him out of trouble.

Liam Coleman looked sharp tonight, Barrett impressed with a solid midfield performance and Sacha was, well, Sacha and was lucky it was only a friendly as I think he'd have seen red if it were a competitive match (2 yellows at the very least).Hawkins, McCarthy and Ricketts all looked pretty solid at the back and Smith looks as though he's developing the right way as well.

Liam's going to have a few tough decisions to make in deciding his strongest XI - especially once De Bolla and Macdonald are fit again.

Mind you, its good to be feeling positive at this stage and to be looking at positive rather than negative selection problems - even players such as Danny Stubbs and John Akinde (especially the former) are probably in contention for 1st team places.

I guess we shouldnt get carried away as we've only had 3 friendlies so far & Millwall werent great tonight, but I'd rather be feeling positive at this stage than looking forward to mid table obscurity.

Decent crowd as well - over 1700 including a good number from Millwall.

I ended up with some Millwall fans and their kids sitting next to me in the Plough End. They weren't too impressed.

In the end they were applauding our fans put downs as they agreed with us.

Thought all our players put in a good performance, and the large crowd created a good atmosphere.

Definately more than 300. Millwall fans were in groups scattered all over the ground.
In my opinion I thought last nights display was very good. I actually thought we looked a good professional outfit and stood up to them physically very well. Admitedly Millwall didn't play well but that had a lot do with the way we played.

Well done boys.

Following on from last night`s game,I think we can be quietly optimistic for the coming season.I liked the way the defence doubled up on the man in possession, and James Smith looked more assured than last season.Keep your eyes on Liam Coleman,I think he`ll be a star man this time around.

Liam Coleman, if given an opportunity to shine this time around, could really come good. He's exciting and creative going forwards, and offers some tenacity in the midfield too.

Speaking of which, I was impressed by Purcell's defensive contribution when he came on last night. Some were suggesting this side of his game was lagging against Bromley (I personally couldn't say), but if it was, he definately answered some critics with good defending in the final two thirds of the pitch!

Nade's movement is so intelligent, his constant drifting either side of the centre backs and ability to find space enough to recieve a pass, added with his outstanding pace, will really be an asset this season.

For the first time since I've been watching GNFC/EUFC, we have two big frontmen! Hallelujah! Both who are very nimble and good with their feet too! I don't want to put expectations on the team but I am really optimistic about this coming season; a youthful squad who are only going to improve, experience in all the right places, a soundly-ran club and judging by Welling and last night, some of the ever-present gliches have been ironed out!

Best pre-season start I can remember. If we start like that in the league too it will be great. I wondered what happened to the Millwall guy as well. He seemed to run the entire length of the pitch (at some pace) and I intially thought that he was heading for Lance to wallop him but he changed direction at the last moment and seemed to head to a specific section of our crowd to his left of the goal. At that point I noticed the steward chasing him (at a somewhat slower pace) and another one move towards him from the nearside of the pitch. At that point a couple of coppers noticed what was happening and started to stroll towards the area too. I lost sight of the guy as I was heading out of the ground due to the sound of a pint calling but wondered what had happened. Did anyone else see? It seemed a lot of effort to get to our end so I assumed that he had a specific target, rather than just cause trouble outside the ground. I did not see any other bother though.

That's why he punched someone and got that person in a headlock.

He was handcuffed when I saw him. Two policemen had him restrained against the wall beside the teahut and he was definitely cuffed then.

So that will be another banning order then smile
