Strikers , Phil Collins , Danny Hockton .

Subs : Charlie Mitten , Charlie McDonald , Simon Beard , John Kiester , Steve Mckimm .

Sam Sodje is the only one who would make my Margate all-time best side.

 

Hockton scored lots but not as prolific as John Ballagher or Dennis Randall.

 

I'd include Tommy Jenkins and Phil Amato.

Interesting thread HF i guess you must be quite young! Jeff trices history site is worth looking at when thinking about the best players too play in a Margate shirt.

There were a lot better strikers than Phil Collins in my opinion. Though he did a good job at a good time for the club.

Older fans will remember Brian Gregory,Buglione etc.

 

I think the best player i ever saw at HDP was Paul Ince.

Though as a kid i also saw Jimmy Greaves and Geoff Hurst playing for Chelmsford and Telford respectively, but they were well past their best.

Look at HF's original post & revise the Title of his team - what would your team of this century be? I'd pretty much agree with that selection, though I'd include Ross Smith rather than Porter, Adrian Clarke for Proths and Leon Braithwaite for Phil Collins.

I agree....if he was a little better at concentrating, he would be playing at a Premiership club...

Must mention Peter Vandepeer though - better scoring record than Danny Hockton and played as an amateur against some really solid former football league pros, including one former England International centre half. Any ideas who that was?

GK. Smith - Best goalie in Non League at the time IMO!

RB. Oates - If only it wernt for them injuries.

LB. Murphy - Another good find by CK now at Motherwell

CB. Ross Smith - his gonna be a star!!!

CB. Sodje - He is a star

RM. Protheroe - Errr its him or Abbott i guess.

LM. Jackson - A versatile leftsided player with great skill.

CM. Saunders - Dont really need to say anything about Jay

CM. Keister - Cheif Bell ringer, and would work his sox off.

FW. Hockton - Goal record speaks for its self.

FW. Manche! - A industrious forward with great abillty.

DF. Sappleton - Awsome defender will miss him next season.

MF. Mcflynn - A lazy git at times, but few better when he was up for it.

Man its tough how do you chose a decent RM when CK insisted with playing wingabacks blah!!
