1. I was not at the friendly on Saturday, but I think it is brilliant that we held a full-time Conference team to a draw, scoring two goals to boot. I also think the result against Bromley was pretty impressive for the first game.

2. I think Trotty is doing a very creditable job of gathering a new team together, considering we have more budget restraints than last year, and considering he is attempting to bring people in in a time of uncertainty vis a vis our current problem with the revenue man.

3. We still have some fantastic players from last year, and Trotty appears to be adding in a mixture of experience and youth.

4. As I am not the parent of any reserves or under 18s I am not resentful that they are not playing the full 90 minutes every game. When they are good enough to cut it in the Ryman I am sure they will.

5. The alterations to the clubhouse and the new offices look very nice.

6. The pitch looks absolutely gorgeous.

7. I have nothing bitchy to say about any of the club officials.

8. I am looking forward immensely to the new season.

9. I couldn't care less about what other clubs are doing, mine is the one I am intested in.

10. Looking on the bright side is more positive than being negative, and makes you feel better about life in general.

I do not need any answers to this post. I certainly do not want to argue over it. I am just tired of looking on here and seeing nothing that would attract me to watch this team were I an interested neutral. It is no good responding to any of the pessimistic posts with an alternate view because you get shouted down.

There, that's off my chest.

Interesting post.

Personally, i have not seen the negative posts that you refer to,but i guess thats the beauty of the cyberworld-its all down to personal interpretation.

There have been lots of realistic posts and factual posts, and most of the time good debate.

Is debate - arguement-not in my eyes.

Do we have to wrap everybody-manager,players,club officials, forum posters in cotton wool-not in my eyes.

Where people have been critical-thank goodness we live in democracy where people can express their views.Thank goodness we get balance and that is why i particularly like to see posters from other clubs with their less myopic views

In my opinion, if we are relying on the forum to attract people to the club, that is one of the issues that wants resolution-imo -its not the job of a forum to market the club !!Once you have the passion to come on the forum, you have a good level of commitment anyway.

Its getting the 100000 people of Thanet to HDP that really wants addressing, before we worry about the opinions of a very small minority of supporters who post on here .

Is the debate on this forum any different to any other football /sporting forum

There is a massive difference to realism and negativity.

I can't see us winning the league this year, but does that make me negative.Possibly in some eyes but not in mine.

Top 8 would do for me (but please give us a cup run aswelll Mr T )-though hoping for better.

Simply my opinion, and rightly everyone will have their own opinion of club and various posts.

I don't think anyone is necessarily looking to sway opinion/win debate, but simply HAVE debate,so please keep posting MF and add value to any debate.

On a positive note. Robin Trott is a more experienced manager. Expectations being lower might not be such a bad thing as well.

On paper the squad may not be the strongest in the league.

But plenty of teams who play for each other do better than teams that would expect to beat them.

The ground is still a worry. But any progress on that will be more than just welcome and give a boost to everyone.

And as a relative outsider to the ranks of the regulars i have to say the dedication of lots of MFC fans is really impressive.

I think the fans care about the club loads and dont just voice criticism (which is no bad thing) but many try to do as much as they can to help.

The loyalty of those fans might just be rewarded this season.

Don't forget - last season was a good season as for the first time in many years we won more games than we lost, we also scored more goals than we conceded and earned more points in the League than we dropped.

In past seasons we have sunk from the Conference to the Ryman Premier - but have not sunk as far as Dover, who have struggled and failed to get out of a division 1 peg lower than ours (whilst 2 Kent League sides have come in and jumped straight past them).

Here here June. was great to be back, watching football again. I found nothing to moan about on Saturday. Youngsters are being given a chance. Its up to them how hard they grab the chance. i was very impressed with young "Paul Axon" during his short spell on the field. He has pace and the confidence to run at defenders ( apparently he had "Duku" chasing shadows at Bromley). I believe all the youngsters out there Saturday are capable of playing at Ryman Premier level if they want to.

Moving away from football, i heard lots of complements from satisfied customers regarding the "hot dogs" and "Burgers". Tam and Dave Kaye have searched for and by all accounts found a supplier with a quality product.

Another comment i heard was at 1/2 time, made by the ( i believe) Chairman of Grays, "its nice to play a team that wants to play football and not kick lumps out of you".

I believe we have again the makings of a good team which should be capable of taking us out of this league. "Roll on the new season". its upwards and onwards again.

Bold statement BB that 'our yougsters' are all capable at playing at Ryman level.

Hope you are right, but there is a dramatic difference between a friendly in July and performing week in/week out to Ryman level on a wet and cold November night .

The first season has got to be about exposure to the odd game and nothing more.

This time last year,Aaron Robinson (no youngster i know)was being advocated as the new Ronaldino !!!

Good to see them developing slowly but must not get carried away.

Lets face it, the jury is still out as to whether Smith is good enough at this level-hope he does make it-so to think that we could have 3/4 such youngsters in the team at anyone time is stretching things too thinly imo, if we are to survive in this league this season

But as nobody knows who you are, how can we say whether your knowledge of football is of a greater or lesser amount.

Oh and before you say it I have already been told by several people on this forum that my knowledge is very small. wink

Are you sure it was your knowledge that they are saying is very small?

I'm very confused by all this as it says styxies reply is to a post made by Cookie but there isn't one unless it was deleted but I don't think Cookie made one on this thread- SO WHAT'S GOING ON?

Deleted post

Quite right Hornet.I had made a posting prior to Styxs's post.I think he may have posted within seconds of me deleting.

I was actually wondering why the thread was started initially seeing as though I hadn't really seen a cause for it in the first place. Was there any negativity from Saturdays game? Not as far as I could see.I made a couple of comments in my personal opinionated report but nothing too damaging I thought. In fact I thought my report was quite complimentary in the main.

Anyway I thought twice about posting it(though I have done so now to try & clear up any confusion on this) & as it was a positive thread also,I thought it would be better not to argue this.

Thought I'd just let it go.

Styx's comment

So,(1) Styx's reply may have been aimed at me & if that were case then I too am only as knowledgeable about football in the same way as the vast majority who post on here. Or,(2) he may have been agreeing with my comments & aiming them,as he says at MF. I cant say she or I am any different to others as far as footballing knowledge goes so as far as thats concerned I think he may have errored in his judgement.

I think it more likely that he agreed with me & that there was hardly any negativity having come out of Saturdays game & that this thread wasnt necessary..He may just have gone a bit further than he intended(or maybe he did intend)with his comments .I'm sure he does realise deep down that MF is no different to most of us as far as knowledge of football goes.

Last saturday part 1

All this is in response to point 1 (above) of course, because despite(on paper)there being good results not everything was as it seemed, but in the main, yes, things went okay.(There are other points from previous months in point 1 of course) & I think as far as points 2-9 go I think most of us can agree on those at least.

Negatives

Point 10,...there will always be some negatives. Sometimes its good to be able to see them & mention them as talking them over sometimes brings an improvement rather than a deterioration.

Putting others down

What the hell does it matter what some say about others. It happens on a regular basis on this forum(unfortunately)& we should all be used to it by now.Seriously,it would be nice if opinions were either agreed upon or disagreed upon & debated, civily, without bringing personal opinions of a person into it.

Last Saturday part 2

It was a fair day out on Saturday, not an inspiring day,but then again not a disaster.

I'm sure Trotty will have learned a few things from the game both positively & negatively & thats more important than anything else at this time of the year. There!, ending on a "BIG POSITIVE".

Long post again? Yes,.......................its good to be back.

laugh wink
