Grays game - Satisfactory

O.K so it was only a friendly & many new players were on show & we shouldn't expect too much right now BUT with the players that were on show yesterday none really stood out too much EXCEPT maybe for HARTE who in the full back role was consistent in everything he did.Others had decent games too, dont get me wrong, but up front it seems we are a bit lightweight. Two good players in Pinnock & Side but both smallish players. Howarth made a bit of a difference with his height when he came on & yes we still have the added bite of Yianni & McKimm to come into the side. These two will improve the team no-end.

With those two coming in we might have a fair chance of being near the top come the end of the season but looking at the early signs,& they are ONLY early signs,I think,to be honest,we are in for a long haul this season. Nothing unexpected I suppose & still early days I know.

At the back we seemed a bit naive at times. Jay played a moderate game but Smith didnt look too comfortable playing alongside of him I thought. Scott made a mess of one ball which caused havoc in our box but apart from that one time he & the others on show out there did o.k,without excelling.

Anyway theres still time & we WILL improve. Grays were not a GREAT side by any means but again its early days for both teams so theres hope for both sides.

Was concerned it took us so long to get a worthwhile effort in on goal but a good strike by Jacko & a well taken goal by Dean(well laid off into his path by SIDE for a precision side-footed shot into the bottom corner of the net) were enough to take the share of the spoils. With the help of a strong second half wind we did enough without looking world beaters at any stage.

It was a satisfactory run out but theres more improvement to come & it IS required if we want to push for promotion again this season.

Good to see more youth in the squad yesterday too.

Overall it was a fair day out with a fair crowd.

fair comments and i mostly agree .we were terrible on the wings both suter and bagley are nowhere near good enough.jimmy will go on the left of course but right is a problem.def need a strong player up front.14 who came on for smith looked ok and must get another chance.very surprised at the lack of decent triallists ther must be a lot of players looking for a club

I agree Styx about out wide today. We were lacking somewhat out there.Bagley hasnt really improved & didnt look much of a threat all day, though with the expected more games coming his way this season he may well get that improvement. In his defence I really dont think him playing out wide gets the best out of him.Suter did o.k but wasnt scaring the defence either.

As for Jacko, indeed its a MUST for him to be out wide & he & Skinner compliment each other so well that it would be foolhardy to ignore that partnership in the long run.

As I mention the introduction of Yianni & McKimm will release him from his midfield role to scare the opposition down those wings.

Anyone know how long Yianni is sidelined for?

Nice to see some balance and reality in the above posts.

Its no use us all going on about playing the local players if they are not good enough.

Have'nt had the pleasure yet this season, but it always seemed apparent that we need a quality experienced defender ,and that Side and Pinnock are similar in style and build.

Yes, Yianni and Mckimm will make a difference, -probably Yianni will fill the right midfield slot-but Macca will be both injury and suspension prone so we need another central midfield player aswell.

In fairness, Grays are a good side ,and its unfortunate that we are not playing more teams from leagues above to give us a real test.

Not in the least bit surprised that there were no new players on show, ( RT suggested new players on show in addition to those who played at Bromley - Lunn excepted?)

One of these days, maybe RT will deliver what he suggests and walk the walk aswell as talk the talk.

Here's what the Grays local paper thought of it-highlights our defensive frailities it seems ,although on the plus side, i think we did well to hold them in midfield-not there-but guess therefore that JJ and Dean did a good job in midfield

enjoyed the footy yesterday, 2nd half was far more entertaining.

Thought JJ played extremely well and is still fired up. Overall the team did well

still the same complaint with regards to the dug out Grays were shouting and bellowing while trotty was just quiet

Suter I thought was poor but hopefully will improve as he settles into the team

Suter left Ramsgate at the end of last season. Has been a part of their first team squad for a few seasons. Didn't get many games there last season and was sent on loan to Chatham for the latter part of the season. From what I've seen of him so far he's not done much really in his second half at Bromley and the first half yesterday.

I'll correct you then, both smith and baggers started pre-season last year with Margate first team along with Robinson and Wisker. All signed before season started for the first team on contract with a wage. Doe's that answer your post and correct you sufficently Joseba

I said before I do not know many people and a lot about the players you have at the moment, I have spent a lot of time reading many past posts, interesting reading though it was.

Towards the end of the game two very young players were brought in to the action who are they were they Karl Barron & Paul Axon who both from the posts I have read seem really good future prospects for the club and only 18 or 19? from what I saw I think Maraget will do very well if this squad works together.

I have seen many teams who are far older and maybe experienced but on the whole Margate looked good to me with a number of older players mixed with youngsters

indeed tw you are correct on this - Smith only featured once for the reserves although did train with us over winter due to the training in bexleyheath being unfeasible. Bagley was sent to the reserves in order to prove his fitness and ability. as soon as he recovered from his ankle/calf injury he was back with the first team
