Gulls 1-6 Southend Utd

What a game to open our pre-season campaign with, always entertaining and there is never anything friendly about playing Southend Utd.

 

We really showed that we could put together some quality attacking play again last night, and new signing Francis looked superb on the right.

 

I always expected Southend to dominate the last twenty minutes of the game purely on fitness levels, but I think in the first half we actually matched up to them quite well, their goals coming from the cowardly responses of the snotty nosed Referee, while his incompetent assistant always favoured that foul ape, Barrett when we went forward.

 

Second half, with a couple of changes to both sides we managed to play some good football. Our trialists looked good, lets hope we can get them to sign up.

 

Defensively we looked a bit shakey, but it can be passed off as a lack of focus and match sharpness that will come back with more competitivness and we didn't have our two arguably best defenders for the game anyway.

 

Next game I can get to is Met Police so really looking forward to that one already.

very impressed by franics he def had the better of mark gower,gabriel also had a good game.We was beaten by a better team but the ref was very bad and gave them a penatly for no reason and didnt give us 1 for a handball,but all in all a good night with over 1100 people there

I enjoyed the game, very pleased with the new players and i thought we looked sharp for our first game.

 

Good crowd, good atmosphere and good weather. The pitch looks in really good condition and you would never have known it had been pouring with rain for a lot of the day.

really enjoyed the game. healthy sized crowd and wonderful singing!

 

new players looked great, can't wait for the league season to begin.

Thought we played well last night. Certainly for the first 15 minutes or so we looked the better side. Campbell Ryce was the difference though. He looked different class at times and gave poor Crow such a headache with his runs and crosses down the right.

 

Good performances from both of our new signings. Took me a while to work out who was who but certainlt Francis gave us some real balance down the right with his pace and skill and Fanibuyan worked hard as well.

 

Thought Chris Bourne and Lucky looked sharp when they came on. Great goal by Lucky.

 

Good crowd as well which should give us some much needed revenue.

I enjoyed the game and everything that came with it, other than the scoreline. It was good to be back though and I was impressed with the new boys, which is always a helpful conclusion.

 

Where was Glen Johnson (I was slightly mythed when Mel played the second half in goal), he hasn't left us again has he?
