urchins 1 -west ham 3

another good work out for the lads tonight against a very lively and free flowing west ham academy team....

we still looked a tad short of fitness and sharpness but that will come and tonights game was a good indicator of where we will need to be this season when the real action starts as there is no doubt in my mind that the team fielded by west ham would more than hold their own in the conference league..

sloppy defending for all three goals in my opinion and a good well taken consolation from shane oakley rounded matters off...good crowd and a nice summers evening at the bridge...

well done all...

I missed the Hx goal as I left just before the end. Bit of a waste of time as my train was cancelled so might as well have stayed till the end.

I was happy enough with our goal at the end, though we should have scored in the first half as well. We played well first half and were unfortunate to be losing at half time. Well taken goals by West Ham, not so much down to our defending more so losing the ball upfield which led to counter attacks all night from a youthful side.

Exciting second half unlike that at Concord, crowd great for an evening kick-off.

I make you right there, I thought the pitch looked superb, it's obvious that some real hard work has gone into that over the summer.

Well done all.

Also, did I hear a whisper that last night was Colin McB's first defeat to the hammers?

If so. then that's one impressive record.

A big thank you from me to our great supporters who turned up in numbers last night, 940 was a fantastic attendance and although there was a few Irons there it shows the potential of the Urchins.

Don't forget these are matches to get players match fit and to work together so the results are really immaterial.

Well done to all present.

Although the queues for the burger vans were rather long, the staff dealt with everyone very quickly so well done to them.

Burgers were rather good may I add and they also make a good coffee.

I put the line ups as best I could onto the web site - it was not easy, as players were coming and going much of the second half.

But I think I have made a mistake, as I have Garry Cross on for the whole match - can anyone confirm if this is correct? And if not, then who came on for him?

I also have not got Jim McFarlane as playing, but I thought he was on the bench in the first half. Did he play?

I would say that the West Ham keeper was the reason they won the match - he made three excellent saves in the first half, including one from John Purdie if I remember correctly, and then made three from Shane Oakley in the second half.

Thanks to everyone who packed the shop out at half time - let's hope you do this every home match. We have a brand new tea urn, which in turn means we now have a much better quality of boiling water.

Joking aside well done Dagsy and Jay in the Urchins bar, great effort.

Young Marek is only 17 and is very highly rated, both by West Ham and in his native Czech Republic, where he is dubbed the new Petr Cech

He was brought to the Hammers through contacts of fellow Czech and West Ham goalkeeping coach Ludo Miklosko.

Looked very confident and was brave in several one on one situations. Made some great saves and his general handling was superb.

Can't believe he's only 17!!!

Crossy came off at half-time, but I can't remember who replaced him (Amos?). Jim McF replaced Richard Goddard at half-time.
