Welling

Purcell, Coleman and Nade shoen for me tonight.

The whole team played with a by-en-large seamless fluidity, excuse the pun but it really was like watching a new team. Purcell is definately one to watch and judging by tonight's performance, a more than worthy replacement to Keeling.

For those that couldn't make it the starting 11 were

Cronin

Ricketts

Hawkins

Long

Smith

McCarthy

Liam Coleman

Barrett

Nade

Moore

Purcell

Subs during the 2nd half (not in order)

Mott (@ H/T)

Akinde

Luke Colman

Sparky

Eribenne

Maskel

Opinel

and someone wearing No. 16 but I couldn't work out what the Tannoy man said, except the 1st change was for Gravesend, and he never mentioned Sam replacing Lance, even though there are obvious differences not least the colour of the shirts they wore.

Looked as if we played 3-5-2

Thought Purcell & Liam Coleman looked bright, as well as some of the unknowns. Temperature rose a bit once Sacha came on though.

Number 16 was Danny Stubbs, who was a Youth Team player last season. Saw him have a decent game for the Youth Team at Wycombe last season & he looked busy tonight as well - like a younger version of Danny Slatter. Maskell, Luke Coleman & Akinde are also part of the Youth Team from last season - its good to see 4 players come through from that team, whether or not they make it into the 1st team squad (and Luke Moore & Sam Mott have both also made the 1st team after playing for the Youth Team)

Not sure who the 1st sub (number 14) was though?

Well said Alan, couldn't agree more.

Good luck to Stubbs, Maskell, Coleman and Akinde, any club would far rather develop their own youngsters than have to go out and find players.

Luke Coleman has had Chelsea and Liverpool sniffing around and although they didn't bite it does indicate that some people think he has potential.

Not a bad run out for the first game of the season.

Thought that Purcell looked promising (Has he been working out over the close season as he looked huge!) Akinde and Stubbs looked up for it too. (Maybe we dont need to look to far for that extra striker?)

Nade looks a very good buy as he has strength and a bit of pace and Chucky came on and looked encouragingly interested too. I like his style of play which isn't glamourous but does the job.

However, Coleman looks to have that bit of arrogance that is the difference between a good player and a very good one. He was always in the thick of it and looking to play the killer ball. I think if he may be the one to watch this year.

Did anyone else get the feeling that if it was a competitive game it may well have turned nasty? The Welling number 2 was definitely dishing it out a bit until Coleman and Sasha sorted him out!

Thought Welling looked well organised and were looking to pass the ball rather than hoof it forward, but they seem to be lacking a striker. Their number 6 (Tony Sinclair?) looked a very good player, comfortable on the ball and a good organiser. Anyone know his previous history?

from kent online:

Welling 0 Ebbsfleet 1

EBBSFLEET United won their first-ever game on Tuesday night after defeating neighbours Welling in a pre-season friendly.

The Fleet, who had been known as Gravesend & Northfleet until their name change in the close season, were playing their first match under their new name.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 13th minute and the honour of scoring Ebbsfleet's first goal fell to a Welling defender, as trialist Tony Sinclair put through his own net after George Purcell's left-wing cross.

Fleet boss Liam Daish said: "It was a good workout and our fitness levels were decent.

"It's only the first game but we did well. Welling have got a bit of experience about them and that was their third game already in pre-season."

Ebbsfleet fans got their first chance to see summer signings Raphael Nade and Neil Barrett but it was left-winger Purcell who caught the eye.

Both teams made numerous substitutions during the second half, which was more notable for some tasty challenges rather than goalmouth incident.

Welling player-manager Neil Smith confirmed the signings of striker Lloyd Blackman and midfielder Michael Johnson after the game and stated that Millwall forward Ross Gaynor will feature again in Thursday's friendly at Maldon.

Fleet boss Daish revealed that he could bring in two trialists for their next pre-season match, at Bromley, on Saturday.

Thought we looked very good going forward and georgey purcell was very good down the left, Rafa impressed me too. Overall good performance bit boring near the end.

Number 19 looked good as well think he is a youth player.

Only slight worry was the size and speed of chukki, didn't look very fit compared to the other players.

Bring on saturday i be supporting the team from a beach in Zante smile

KShep will be the first to tell you he saw him in the gym the other day, so I would presume so! Don't let him rattle on about what other 'star spotting' he's done this summer though!! tongue

Thought for a first run out, a good showing.

Players certainly look fit and ready for the season ahead. agree thought Purcell was a different class to last season, well done him.

I also thought Stacey looked good, nice to have him fit for the start of this season.

Good start. well done, nice to watch the game in glorious sunshine, will try and remember how it felt when I am freezing later on in the season.

Sinclar was clearing it but it hit Jamie Turner and went in the net. Just incase it matters tongue

I could not make it last night. but your comment about Purcells size, does not suprise me, having seen a few of them training at my local gym, I can understand why you say about his size, they are made to work really hard.Rather them than me hyperactive

I enjoyed watching that match last night, the first half of the match was especially good. The first player that shone for me was Raphael Nade and his ability to pin point players in space and to play one touch style. He certainly looks promising. As for George Purcell, very impressive, think that is the best I've seen him play, hope he gets more first team starts for the coming season.

Excellent night, Ebbsfleet won their first ever match under the new name and our first goal was scored by a former Fleet keeper (how ever you look at it).

Well done, Fleet!

A bit early and negative I know but, disapointed with Chukki. Appeared not to try at all. Has he a fitness problem? He was slow and made little attempt to nod crossed balls.

All the others looked up for it. The guys that stood out for me were Georgy Purcell, Luke Moore and Slasha Opinel.

I was sitting in the stand close to the action when one of our players had his legs stamped on by their 22, and this was a friendly. Slasha carried out a little bit of retalitory action later on in the game.

Nice to see Chris Moore again albeit for Welling.

Typical first game scenario. Enjoyed it.
