Connell resigns as Stony boss

Recommended Posts

Craig Connell surprised local football when he resigned as manager of Stony Stratford Town FC last Thursday.

Connell has been in the Stony hot seat for two seasons and last season took the club to two cup finals and missed out on promotion only on goal difference and only by three goals.

During this time he attracted some of the top local footballers to the club.

Connell feels he has moved the club on but felt his other commitments would not allow him to dedicate the necessary time.

Chairman Kevin Gallagher said: "Craig has been instrumental in putting this club back on the map and I would like to publicly thank him for his efforts and congratulate him on his achievements."

Gallagher reinforced the club's ambition stating: "Our plans to move forward remain in place and I will be looking for a manager with ambition, drive and the necessary contacts to continue the success that has been made over the past couple of seasons."

Mark Hardie is to take over as caretaker manager until a successor is found.

Yesterday's (Wednesday) scheduled friendly with Hemel Hempstead was cancelled.

Anybody interested in applying for the vacant manager's position should contact Kevin Gallagher on 07710 515569. Interviews will take place on Monday evening.

Football Man - How can you say that, you don't know anything about Royston Town or Brache Sparta who will be very much unknown quantities until the season gets under way, they may be snapping up players left right and centre. Then there is Amersham Town who have got an impressive new set up following the refurbishment of their ground, that will enable them to attract quality players from the area.

it will be tough this year in div 1 but cant see brache causing many problems and teams that come down always find it hard to bounce back up. My tip is hoddy but it will be a lot tighter than last year maybe kentish if rhodes stops giving them bad publicity and let them get on with playing football.....

In what way am I giving Kentish Town bad publicity, I don't understand. I do agree though that teams coming down generally struggle, such as Harpenden Town last season, and find it hard to bounce straight back, I'm sure this will apply to Haringey Borough.

Think you will find that Harpenden Town struggled last year because they lost all but 2 of their premier division squad and brought in a young inexperienced manager whose only previous effort was to keep Ampthill Town rooted to the bottom of the table the year before.. Look at what Ampthill did last year.. Proves the point really!!

I think Ampthill will be right up there again this year with probably Hoddy (always contenders with that budget) and possibly Bedford Town reserves.. They will be better than you think.. Also one of these years Sun Postals will have a great season with the set up they have there!!

As for the prem i recon Biggleswade Town, Hertford, Harefield or Broxbourne for the title.. Robbie'O whats the news at united?? You have been very quiet lately! Hows it shaping up?? Promotion assault or relegation dogfight for you boys??

Do you not mean "in my opinion" this will apply to haringey i mean you was SO sure that KTFC were to be promoted last season!! but again it was just your opinion!

Instead of worrying over things like this with the new season still a month away why don't you get your priorities right and clarify what happened to the signed shirt and ball, then we can start concentrating on where 'we' might finish in Division 1 as my guess will be no higher than mid table as long as 'Sugar' is still at the helm.

Rhodes.. what odds would you give on Haringey finishing above Kentish Town this season?

I'll check with my bookie mate and let you know but I'm sure it will be 6/1 at least, I don't think there is any chance of it happening do you.

Football Man - Have you got over the fact that I guessed which game you were at last night, you must have wondered how I did it.

I'd have £10 on it at 6-1. While you're at it odds on Hoddy finishing above Kentish as well please...

Sorry Part Time, my little snippets of info have been few & far between. I think midtable beckons for Utd this year - bit of consolidation after a summer of change. That will do nicely, the ground development can then go ahead so the club can take larger strides in the coming seasons.

NeutralFan - He said that it depends on whether we have got Lee Scott playing for us and will not be laying odds until early August anyway, he thinks Hoddesdon will be around 13/2 to win the League and they won't even be favourites.

I think Royston Town are favourites, my bookie mate might know something we don't. He also mentioned Sport London e Benfica which I can't see, I'm still sure they'll be in for a rude awakening this season and will be nearer bottom than top.
