What has happened to my Club!

I apologise for the title to our fans but I have been watching Margate Football Club for many, many years and only recently have I been able to master the wizardry of electronic communication or some would say the PC, and for my birthday this year my grandchildren have been able to train me to do this!

For my sins I have spent the last few days running an eye over the posts on this forum, what seems to be clearly apparent is the low moral, speculation and in honesty despair or the fans.

As I have already mentioned I have been watching for more years than I would like to mention but I will say this, I watched the Ramsgate v Gillingham fixture recently, the pitch looked very good, I noted a conversation between some chaps the goals are new, they have a top coach, and money to spend.

Now I am sure we have the same here don’t we? So lets not worry to much lets forget that we don’t know anything, are not updated to much and seem to be in the dark regarding fixtures? I am a very worried man at the moment.

The likes of many who have been here for years must feel like me we are slowly deteriorating. Come on Mr Piper give us old un’s something to cheer about again.

What a pleasant and unemotional post.

Hpefully, when someone like Prawn takes the trouble to post, someone at the club will take notice, that it is not just the 50 or so regular forum posters (whose continued support CANNOT necessarily be relied upon ) but for eah one of us, there are others out there ,who may not post on here, but are feeling exactly the same way.

We may well be in deep financial trouble, but tell us so;and frankly, we probably could have afforded the outlay if a semi decent job had been done to market the club over the last 2 seasons.

It would not have been too hard to promote the club to get 100 extra spectators in on average per game.Average spend say £8 over 90 games in last two seasons ,would have brought in £72000.

Maybe £16000 additional costs.

Would have brought in £56000.

Maybe some could have worked a bit harder to bring in further sponsorship aswell to added to the coffers.

It seems to me, that 2 years ago, the club saw 1200 people attend the fist home game upon the return to HDP,got a bit of money from Active; thought everything would be ok, sat back on their laurels and surprise surprise without the effort; its slowly fallen apart.

Even up to a few weeks ago, and post the cva issue, there was support and goodwill there, but i definately sense that the goodwill and indeed sympathy towards the Board is evaporating.

I think that like Richard Lawson at Ramsgate, its time for those at the top to admit they've taken the club as far as it can go and step down. There are people that would love to get their hands on this football club. They should be given that chance. I'm starting to feel that a new Margate football club under a different name is the way forward. Im not suggesting the formation of a football club in the Kent County League but I feel the club needs re-branding and restructuring so that local businesses and the supporters regain confidence and trust in its leaders. I think that the club should be put up for sale and potential buyers should present a business plan to supporters. I think that supporters should then form the casting vote on whom should form the board of directors. By doing this it gets local people and supporters involved and in tern makes the club more community based. A thumbs up from everyone I expect!

And Piper would agree to that would he , i know i upset a few people the last time i brought his name into it but all the time he`s at the club we won`t go any further , this is my personal opinion , i know he`s done alot for the club in the past but there is always a right time to step aside and let someone else take on the reigns and maybe this is the time to do it .

i agree with the above im told there are a few backers out there who would invest in this club, but all the time this so called md in charge they wont touch us,thats why the other works are taking longer to do coz he pissed off the council so many times.i emailed the club about a commercial matter the other week .dont know why i botherd i still havnt heard a thing.at least we have a decent youth side which thank god he has nothing to do with.

I have thought like this for a long time really. The grounshare at Ashford undermined my confidence in the abilities of those running the club.
And since then things have not got much better. BUT perhaps some of the right moves have been made. Personally i thought it was a good move getting Alan bown involved and good to see a decent reserve and youth set up.
It is really difficult running a business and i know from experience you can try and please all ofthe people all of the time, but it seldom works.
Perhaps more is being done behind the scenes to sort out the finances,so the club can move on.
But i do still think a genuinelly independent supporters group would be a very wise move.
