Anyone been to a pre season match today?

Paulb - (this is not a bite btw)I did fancy a challenge, which is what made my decision hard, it was a close call in my head. Would be a bit naughty, Utd's top scorer ever joining the green machine.

Part Time - I get the feeling Timmsy will get the nod.

Football Man - Are you looking forward to Erith Town v Tooting and Mitcham this evening, I assume you are going straight from work.

Town will do well this year, training was good, looked like a healthy competitive squad, much better than previous seasons.

theyve signed Jack Weeden & Keith Thomas from us though. 2 good players we will struggle to replace.

Wader is playing their chances down, but if they can get a good start, they will grow and maybe challenge for honours.

If anything the derby should be a bit tastier this year!!

Might do. Haven't decided yet. Two Erith games in a week might be a bit much! Why the interest in a game between two non-SSML sides?

No, I'm at home now.

No interest really, I just wanted to demonstrate that I can still read you like a book.

RobbieO - Just for completeness here is the press report from the Biggleswade United v Kentish Town game:

Saturday 28 July 2007
Pre-Season Friendly Fixture
Biggleswade United 4 Kentish Town 2

Town returned to leafy Second Meadow, the scene of their narrow Challenge Trophy defeat last season, and gave their illustrious Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division opponents the fright of their lives before finally going down to two late goals when a draw looked very much on the cards.
Town looked in a hungry mood from the outset and didn’t appear fazed in the slightest by a Biggleswade outfit that included the prolific Robbie O’Dell who proved such a thorn in their side last season, indeed it was O’Dell who had the first bite of the cherry with an early strike at goal that just went the wrong side of the post.
On the 12 minute mark Town went ahead when a defensive lapse allowed the ball to fall to Tony Dowsett fifteen yards from goal and his mis-timed shot trickled into the corner of the net. Town were playing some positive football and creating a number of openings without getting the rub of the green and testing the suspect looking home keeper.
They paid the price for this on 25 minutes when some indecisiveness in defence allowed O’Dell to steal the ball and slot it in from close range past a helpless Paul Williamson.
With the score level at the interval Town started the second period in good heart however despite early pressure were unable to capitalise and Bigglewade went ahead on the hour mark when O’Dell crossed accurately from the right and a forward was on hand to score unchallenged.
To Town’s credit they got back into the proceedings ten minutes later when, somewhat fortuitously, a free kick from some twenty yards out went straight into the net with the keeper deceived and partially unsighted.
Town made some substitutions hoping that fresh legs would win the game however with ten minutes remaining a goal kick to the right touchline was not controlled and Bigglewade proceeded up the field with men to spare leaving a forward to beat Williamson in a one on one situation.
Disaster then struck a minute later when almost straight from the restart Town lost the ball in a key position and, with no adequate cover at the back, Bigglewade gleefully made it 4-2 putting the game beyond Town’s reach as both teams began to tire in the humid conditions.

Town Team: Williamson, Dowsett, Kanaris, R Quattromini, Butler, Luck, Barkat, D Dawson, S Nicolaou, A Nicolaou, Zanre, Ellis, Dhall

There's no point in premature trumpet blowing. When nothings won there's no bragging rights. Cup games are one off's, the league is a hard slog and I know it's a cliche but it's true - anything can happen between August and May.

There are teams throughout the division who think they have a good chance this coming campaign. I respect that and respect that a football season will always consist of the ups and the downs and getting more of the former than the latter is the trick. The highest hope at the moment is for a marked improvement on 2006/07.

As for the derby games with Bigg Utd, I look forward to them hugely, the rivarly will be heightened by our summer signings from Bigg Utd and crowing rights are at stake - as they are in every derby match played across the country. This may not be Arsenal v Spurs, but at a local level it will seem like that no doubt! Whatever the outcome of our encoutners I will always be up for a chat and a beer in the clubhouse with anyone from the opposition after the matches.

No it's Dundee v Dundee United as I compared it to last season

That's just the mystique of the Kentish Town brand, I have never been able to put my finger on it but somehow we seem to generate unprecedented interest everywhere we go.

Wader - I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at, Saturday was the first time I had met Tony Dowsett and I don't know his background.
