to get this thread back on topic.

Went to the Vale today and saw the new look Ruislip Manor side lose 1-0 to Harrow Borough. Recognised a few faces for Manor but not many. They competed well against a Borough side and the only goal was a questionable penalty. No doubt it was a foul but debatable as to whether it was in the area, Harrow didn't think so as they took a quick free kick on the edge of the box not realising the referee (a former RMFC youth team player!) had pointed to the spot.

Too early to judge after one game and Manor have some more players to come in I know but with 'The Sway' now at Leverstock Green they will need someone else up front to add a cutting edge to some potential in the middle of the park.

Just got back from Biggleswade to watch Kentish Town lose 4-2 to a United side that included the prolific RobbieO, I decided against starting up a seperate thread for the game as there were so many talking points as was the case with our pre-season friendlies at Ruislip Manor and Hertford Town last season however I can still do so later if pressured into it. As RobbieO will no doubt confirm later we were unlucky to lose with the score locked at 2-2 with ten minutes remaining, Biggleswade then got two somewhat fortunate goals in the space of a minute to kill the game off and a draw would have been a fair reflection of play. I would like to register my thanks to the Second Meadow Club who treated the game like a cup final and laid on a spread fit for a king afterwards despite it only being a friendly, I don't think many Club's would go to those lengths.

Eagles,

The players on the website pen pictures are last years squad.

Yes there were a number of black players but apart from Adamson Ajayi and Aaron Macleish-White who were there last year and a couple of former players - Craig White and Justin Bailey I didn't recognise any.

I too popped in to watch a bit of Bigg Utd v Kentish this afternoon. There was a conny south scout there! From what I saw Kentish looked good, albeit against a Bigg Utd side missing some key players. RobbieO shone amongst his team mates. If I was honest I thought the Bigg keeper looked a bit of a mare although pulled off a fine save from a glancing header from the Kentish 9 (I think) who looked fairly good but was clearly horribly unfit. Best player for Kentish from what I saw was probably their number 2 -Tony something or other. I didn't stay long, left just after the Kentish keeper and Robbie0 had a bit of handbags (well, the Kentish keeps was doing the handbagging).

Wader - I never had you down as a SteveR type, ie Mr Unsociable, why didn't you come over and introduce yourself as I wouldn't have been difficult to find. I am just putting the match report together for the Islington Gazette next week and I agree with most of what you say, you don't fancy writing the report for me do you and I'll just fill in the names. RobbieO is a bit tasty isn't he and he's such a modest chap too, we had a chat in the bar afterwards and he made out he had a stinker.

Yes I did have a Marks and Sparks plastic bag and a black brief case, I had copies of a number of our award winning weighty tome's with me from last season and could have given you one had you plucked up enough courage, I don't bite.

Another time perhaps - now I know who you are.

As for RobbieO, yes he appears to be a modest chap. He shone (and absolutely no disrespect to him here), but Bigg Utd were without an entire 'wedding party' and a couple of sunseekers from what I gather. He certainly seemed frustrated with himself a couple of times when his touch deserted him, but it is only pre-season and that's what these games are all about.

I liked the way Kentish moved forward and very much knew where the goal was. They appear to be coached well but were probably let down overall by a couple of players who are clearly punching above their weight. Otherwise quite impressed with them.

Wader - Thanks for that vote of confidence, no doubt the usual suspects, or sould I say suspect, will be on later to pour cold water on that. You may have noticed 'the great one' on the touchline but the guy that was joined to him at the hip with the yellow cap on is even more highly qualified if that's possible so there are great times ahead. Actually I thought we were light weight up front today, had we had Lee Scott he would have buried three or four of those chances without batting an eye lid and Biggleswade would have been dead and buried by half time.

And as I said, I thought you were let down by a couple of players who are punching above their weight. The overall effort to get the ball in the danger zone was good though, and not just with the play itself, but with what I can only describe as an ethos. That is great coaching.

Afternoon Wader/Rhodes

My first opportunity to get to the PC, some interesting views on the game!

Overall Kentish played quite well, some nice triangle football at the back. Tended to go long a bit too much after that in my view, i have to agree with Rhodes, a bit lightweight upfront.

It was a bit of a strange game to play in for myself, with so many people away it was mainly a reserve side bar 4 players.

I wouldnt say the last too goals were fortunate though Rhodes, poor defending that got punished in my view.

Wader was spotted dictaphone in hand amongst the observers!! Not a lot to see today, i recommend a second viewing further down the line.

As for the Kentish Keeper, i dont blame him for getting upset, i did throw him in the bush after all!! Accidentally i promise....

RobbieO - Thanks for that summing up and it was good to see you yesterday, you possibly just shaded it but we were clearly disappointed with the two late goals we gave away in the space of a minute. Don't worry about our keeper, he has seen it all before in Iraq as he's in the army, it was just handbags at dawn, just pray to God that we don't draw each other again in the Challenge Trophy.

No chance of me worrying about your keeper Rhodes, he was hilarious! Maybe fitness could be an issue, a few of the Kentish lads were blowing hard.

Your defender "Rob" was moaning at the lack of depth in the squad. Your cockney sweeper is a good laugh, he's been there a while hasnt he?
