Gavin, it can be done. Your situation is so much like ours and we survived. We played with NO budget. All of our first team left and our reserve team took over. They were all young with very little first team experience and they played for the luv of the club. All the management and back room staff gave 100% commitment to the club for NO wages. To my knowledge the players budget was very small with only 'token' wages being paid.

Us as supporters done a lot of fundraising and continue to do so. We successfully finished in the top 6 - which was a big suprise to many of us.

Edgware Town can survive!

Thanks for the link , Gavin ( I wasnt doubting your word just querying the figures mentioned by Hendon).

I am very interested in the financial aspect of running a club.

I realised most clubs have a benefactor but didnt realise it might be 100,000 gbp plus even at Ryman level.

I saw the figure of Hendon gate receipts of 13,700 a year.

Working it out roughly 200 people at fiver a time for 20 games is 20,000. Am I missing something?

Does anyone know what their clubs gate receipts are?

And what percentage gate receipts are of the total income?

Sorry I am a nosy whatsit!

Yes you do appear to be, are you thinking of running a club?

Yes..Hendon dont get 200 for ever match, they get under 200 for matches at home.

Thats heartwarming to know Paula, Canvey done very well last season with their reserve side playing as the 1st team.

Did Canvey have a large squad last season, and if so how did they manage to keep them all happy when those left out were not getting any football whatsoever?

We did have a biggish squad. Basically everyone stepped up a rank. Our under 18s became the reserves etc.

So far this season we have only lost 2 players (one has gone to Womble country).

The 'extras' obviously played the reserve games. We were particulary lucky as we had few injuries.

It was a very exciting season for us and a most enjoyable one. We now have a much more supporter friendly club and no 'minders' frightening people off. The supporters feel very much that it is 'their' club now.

Gavin,

I nearly got involved this season but seem to have had a lucky escape!

As for the numbers Hendon average over 200 a game for the last few years looking at their website, even without AFCW, and current price is 8 pound a ticket.

I think as fans we often get fed a load of baloney on costs and income.

But some matches at Hendon attract less then 200, overal their ave is just over 200, but they have had matches where they struggle to get over 150.

What club were you going to get invovled in? Do you have lots of 'dosh' then ? LOL

You are the owner of Dorking FC! are you the club chairman?

I wonderd why you asked so many in depth questions and mentioned about Dorking, now I understand why.

What kind of crowds do Dorking get? and what are your hopes for the future?

Sorry Gavin, i didnt intend to mislead you.

I am not the owner or chairman of Dorking Football Club who play in the Combined Counties league.

Its a long story but what I own is Dorking Town Football Club Limited which I formed as a company this year. Its just a company, no team, no ground!

One day that MIGHT change!

Dorking Fc got crowds approaching 100 last year but used to get 300 ish in the Ryman. (could be wrong!)

The hopes for the future are a bit like yours Gavin, hope to last the season.

Its possible Gavin.

Currently the clubs landlords ( the council) have said they will evict the current owners. The owners say they will fight the eviction if it comes.

Strangely the council want to evict the owners and let the football club stay but under a new "operator".

Im very keen that any new operator not only starts with honourable intentions but is "encouraged" to keep them.

Anything I can learn about how other clubs are run will help me.

No not any club, Spurs seem ok at the moment!

Dorking is my home town, im about a half mile from the ground.

I just want to try and ensure that if Dorking does change hands there wont be "football club folds scare" in the local papers every couple of years.

Last season the shirt sponsor was a demolition company!
