It is my understanding that the lease had 4 years left to run, if Edgware knew of the lease only runnig to december then surely they wouldnt have gone to all the trouble of getting the ground refurbed for the grading requirements of the Ryman.

It is also my understanding that the players are going to play for Free this year to help with the financial side of things, if that is the case fair play to them for their loyalty.

So it seems that it was purely a commercial decision by Edgware, after their backers and sponsors withdrew their support (for some reason) when the planning permission was given.

They had a four year lease, plenty of time to sort out a future but chose to quit the ground and nearly fold.

Not a good example to use to petition the govt probably.

Edgware keep a promotion whilst setting up a new groundshare.

I feel sorry for Gavin and the fans, and if the players arent taking any money when they were paid last year thats great and very loyal of them.

...

WRONG! You DONT know the facts, so if I were you I would not make accusations.

The club would NOT as you say quit their home for 68 years and put its future in danger just for the sake of it!

This from the club....

Edgware had a 5 year lease granted in June 2006 but there was a break clause after 3 years, which gave us tenure till May 2009. However the rent on that lease is £32,000.00 per annum and with all the other bills, gas, electricity, insurance, etc, etc, etc, the cost to stay at the White Lion would have been about £60,000.00. When we wee told our sponsors were not prepared to funf the club any longer because the ground had been sold we could not afford to stay.

The early lease surrender was a benefit to the developer/and or freeholder then. I hope it was handled well.

Last time I negotiated one of those the incoming paid handsomely - but I hate to blow my own trumpet. elephant

Some are more generous than others of course

Gavin - You couldn't have made the position clearer, thanks for that but surely this could have been stated from the outset which would have saved a lot of head scratching as to how your plight came about and why you had to pack your bags and vacate the White Lion Ground virtually overnight.

I dont think Gavin knew Rhodes sir.

Who was the benefactor and sponsor last year or so ? something to do with house building?

And when they didnt get the gig they pulled the plug.

Another club living beyond its means and we were meant to get Brown involved and blame the council and developers etc.

I hope they have made a wiser choice this time on where there funding is coming from to pay the rent

Thanks, I gather he's flying to Portugal tomorrow and I doubt we'll ever hear from him again, he was a bit of an odd ball wasn't he.

He actually said that it WASN'T Portugal he was going to. You assumed that it was because he represented a club with Portugese allegiance
