I am sure you will all wish them well and one League Cup section will now have five clubs , that section will be advised on 15th July. This has not affected the issue of fixtures which cannot be actioned until we receive the Step 4 fixtures and they don't come out until mid July so as you have all proven to be so patient I trust you can wait a little longer. LC,is it going to be one team or two teams?I was led to believe that they were 2 separate teams(walthamstow pennant and Mauritius Sport). What happened to Braintree Wanderers? smile

Pennant FC were originally a London Spartan League club playing at Wadham Lodge. When the original Walthamstow Avenue folded, they changed their name to Walthamstow Pennant. When Wingate pulled out of Leyton-Wingate, the bulk of the Leyton club merged with Walthamstow Pennant (although a group stayed behind to keep the Leyton name going and that is the club now playing in the Ryman Premier) and became Leyton Pennant before changing their name to Waltham Forest a couple of years back. When Leyton Pennant were formed, a new Walthamstow Pennant emerged and played on the outside pitch at Wadham Lodge in the Middlesex County League. The new Walthamstow Pennant side didn't last very long but, on their demise, another Middlesex County League side, Leyton County (who had been groundsharing the outside pitch at Wadham Lodge) took over the name Walthamstow Pennant. After one season, they merged with the reformed Walthamstow Avenue (2000) and, for the last two seasons, had played at Town Mead in Waltham Abbey under the name Walthamstow Avenue & Pennant, still in the Middlesex County League.

What isn't clear, at this stage, is whether it is the Pennant bit of this club that have broken away from Avenue to join forces with Mauritius Sports, and left the Town Mead club to revert back to Walthamstow Avenue, or whether there has been a committee split with some staying at Walthamstow and some joining Mauritius. Maybe LC can shed some light on this?

According to Mitoo, last season Mauritius Sports came 2nd bottom of the Mddx County League (There was also a Walthamstow Avenue & Pennant). This season there will still be a Walthamstow Avenue!!!

Mauritius Sports (CMB), as was, took part in a one-off Middlesex Millennium Cup competition a couple of seasons ago and topped their group which also included Potters Bar Town and Kentish Town. They went on to come within 10 minutes of reaching the semi final before falling to two late Ruislip Manor goals.

I can't say for sure that they won't struggle like Beaumont Athletic or London APSA did in their first seasons, but I do believe they have the capability to field strong sides, as they have shown in the past, and if they do so again they might settle better than some of the other recent arrivals in the ESL.

Coach, Braintree Wanderers were denied senior status by the Essex FA

So let's get this right then. A convoluted Junior team from Middlesex can upsticks, share at Aveley and get 'Senior' status overnight, whereas a new team from Essex, who want to share at an established Conference South ground were refused.

Can somebody confirm this before a sh!tty email heads off in the direction of Mr Sammons at Springfield...

its a joke really as I have already said on another thread.....the esl had the chance to allow a new team from braintree into the league with all the facilities of a conference sth club and didn't even entertain the idea.....

perhaps there will be a few familiar names in the mauritius line up which could clear up the confusion on how to spell names.... grin

I spoke with Mr. Sammons on the subject of senior status a few years ago and he said he didn't understand why clubs who are currently at junior/intermediate level would want to go to all the expense of becoming a senior club!

In fairness, I do think that the number of senior clubs is too great to sustain them all. We almost had Edgware Town go out of business last week, although they now appear to be saved by a groundshare offer from Harrow Borough. However, there are too many senior clubs, particularly in London and the south east, fighting over the same catchment areas and all fighting off the developers from their prime piece of land. More mergers/fewer clubs would not necessarily be popular amongst supporters/committees of those clubs currently in existence but it would mean that a community would have one (or two at a push) senior clubs to follow, rather than splitting themselves amongst a choice of up to about a dozen senior clubs less than 30 minutes from home in most parts of greater London and east Essex. The bigger crowds that a fewer number of clubs could attract should increase longevity of those clubs and ensure local, affordable senior football for a long time to come.

that's where the problem lies! madlet's be clear... it's called Essex Senior League and every team at step 5 in Essex should be there! It's down to the FA to say:it's Essex and the likes of tiptree, stanway rovers, saffron walden town, and the other 3 essex sides who i forgot the names now,MUST play in the ESL! flameour chairman is fighting tooth and nails to get more teams in our league and these Essex sides are allowed to play in a league that geographically is not theirs. We should go to Soho square and blow up the place chainsaw ahhhh end of the rant...

Coup, well intentioned I'm sure, but there really is no point. Unfortunately, I hear that the Wanderers given up and disbanded. Six of the lads have gone off to play rugby and the rest will probably go down the pub on a Saturday instead. The £3k they raised to cover start up costs, etc., has been donated to a local charity.
