Why people feel the need to pass comment on new signings they've either never seen play or at best only on occasion for opposition clubs, rather than wait until they've seen the players play a good few matches for the club, has always baffled me.

Just as it's ludicrous to bemoan new signings (as Alan W alluded to), it's equally bizarre to proclaim them 'good signings' straight from the off.

I'm confused...Do I say good signings or do I say pile of sh*te signings. Whatever it is will be shot down.

I'm off for a babysham to think it over.

At least he is not an 'unknown' and unproven name.
One more quality name up front, and our squad will look very capable.

Except that anyone with the ability to read English would have spotted that J.C. didn't make any comment at all about Nade only about people who are willing to judge players before they have kicked a ball for us.

Hopefully Nade will sign for us and we can all enjoy a few years watching him bang the ball in the net 25 times a season but as J.C. rightly pointed out he should be judged on what he does in a Fleet shirt not what he has or hasn't done in the past.

I can't help remembering that most of last years summer signings were all "unknown and unproven" at the time....some of them did very well and some didn't.

Now you are showing your age. Great group.

JC, I'm not going to start a slanging match by any means, but I don't agree with you there.

Someone used the example of Charlie Mac being a good signing before we'd seen him play, and you can hardly deny that. Obviously we've got the advantage of hindsight now, but in our position then, with the uncertainty over Daish and the lack of a goalscorer since the mighty Stadhart's 11 goals in our first season, a young, proven goalscorer at a competent level was undoubtedly a good signing!

If Daish signed a 33-year old striker who was the 15th top scorer in the Ryman last year, would it really be ludicrous to call him a rubbish signing?

.

It would if he subsequently went on to be a good signing....an obvious example being Rob Haworth who did an excellent job for us.

Fair enough Slarti I can't argue that, but you see where I'm coming from? Before you've seen a player actually perform on the pitch, you're going to judge whether he's a good signing or not- look at Torres at Liverpool.

Granted we've all seen La Liga on Sky Sports 3 on a Sunday night, but no-one's seen Torres play in the Premiership before, yet you wouldn't really argue against him being a good signing for them.

How original. Having not seen Nade in a Fleet shirt as of yet, having a concrete opinion on him at this stage would be pretty premature anyway.

And therein you've made the important distinction - the one between 'is a good signing' and 'looks a good signing', that is.

At least someone managed to interpret the point of my post. Slarti, once again I salute you.

I'm sure the one thing we can all agree on is that Talking Heads are excellent.

'Orwellian'? Ridiculous. Despite repeated explanations, you still can't seem to grasp the simple concept that disagreeing with someone is in itself expressing an opinion.

Please feel free to highlight the occasions when, in disagreeing with someone, I've actually stated that their opinion is prohibited.

Oh, and don't be silly, Hirsty - it's actually 11 games.
