Smoking Ban

The Main Stand at Clarence Park was non smoking before the Government ban came into force. The Valley Parade fire caused all football clubs to ban smoking in wooden stands. I presume the Main Stand at CP has been a non smoking area since 1984.

It's a bit foggy to me too. I can't be fagged to go through it all, and I don't want to be the butt of all your jokes.

Tha main stand has always been non-smoking (don't you listen to the tannoy announcements?) and the Cola stand is exempt because more than half is open to the elements. Hope Eamesy's put up all the notices on the doors.

Why not make the entire ground non-smoking?

I noticed a few improvements at the ground yesterday...

1. The Cola-stand roof has been fixed/replaced, so no more holes in the roof.

2. The sign on the front of the Cola has been replaced and has the full name of the club on it now (including FC). It looks pretty good.

3. The "members of the .... Football League" sign has been removed.

When I worked for the club I designed a fans survey to give the club a better understanding of the views of the supporters. One of the questions the survey asked regarded the views of St Albans City supporters towards smoking at the ground on match days. Unfortunately I was prevented from proceeding with the project as the club felt that the valuable information gleaned from the survey wasn't worth all the effort!

The survey is still available if anyone wants to try and get it off the ground again just let me know your email address and I'll send it over. IMO the questionnaire would have proved to be a valuable marketing tool for the Saints while at the same time I believe it would have been appreciated by the fans as a first step towards a two-way communication with the new supporters of the club and those who had been following the club for years.

I think that it should be obligatory to smoke in the clubhouse.

Those who don't wish to smoke should go somewhere else like downstairs on buses or 'Non Smoking' compartments on trains. Those places are set aside for these kind of people for Heaven's sake. Why should the rest of us have to suffer because of their filthy and disgusting habits?
