Will Harefield United sign it then.

clip Rods, why can't you just take a long walk on a short cliff every now and then?

This is a thread marking the apparent demise of an established club and people doing their best to help and, despite some good work from you earlier in the thread, you now appear intent on using it to upset Harefield United.

I second that - you really are a very sad man.

Football Man - Apologies if you and others feel that is the case however Browndog started all the bad feeling.

You don't seem to see the difference between browndog's problem with Gavin, which Gavin certainly brought about by his posts on the Harefield forum, and browndog's genuine upset at the sad demise of a good club.

Taken from my Edgware Forum

Whilst this is sad news I think it is just a clear sign of the times and an even bigger sign of the future of Edgware itself. You only have to look at the ethnic make up of the community now to see that a local side like Edgware have no future in the area and to be honest no future anywhere. Just outside the ground you have an indian place of worship, and the Sangam centre is just down the road. The area is not the as it was 5 years ago.

Burnt Oak, Colindale and Hendon are places for immigrants and foreigners, that is a fact now. Why is that a large number of people on the forum no longer live in the area? I moved out 4 years ago and would never go back and live there. There was a kid murdered outside the school last year!!! Nice area!!! The glory days of Edgware are finished, if we save it now, the fight will be lost next year or the year after. Its a sad fact of life but a clear indication on modern Britain.

My Reply

I full agree with those statements. I have said in the past if you were to go to the Boardwalk centre in Edgware and ask 100 people about Edgware Town FC, you would be lucky if just 10% knew where the ground was let alone that there was a team playing in the town!

No one has a sense of community anymore towns like Hendon and Edgware which back in the 60's/70's were buzzing are now decaying.

I have been thinking about a move away from the area which I grew up in Edgware/Hendon area, and this could be the final nail in the coffin that makes me leave. Living in the Hyde (junction of colindale/west hendon) I have seen the area decline in the 9 1/2 years living here. I want to settle down and have a family and I dont want them to grow up around here.

Right now I am ready to do all I can to help the club, that's if we still have club, but in the longer term I too shall no longer be around these parts.

Kingsbury Town have now become the asian run London Tigers, alienating any locals who have a followed Kingsbury in the past. Hendon WILL be the next to lose their ground and no doubt will go the same way as Edgware, thus losing another local side, and one with a far greater history then Edgware.

Wealdstone are dreaming if they think they will see themselves playing at the PEPF development in Cannons Park, its become a white elephant and the council hoped Barnet would take it off their hands, now even that seems like its fallen through.

Wstone wont survive without a ground for much longer, sharing at Northwood they are losing money hand over fist whilst Northwood themselves are still in deep financial trouble and the signs dont look good for their long term future.

Harrow Boro survive on poor gates, Wingate & Finchley survive in the Ryman 1 with worst gates then we were getting last season. They have a nice set up there, but they appear to only stay afloat thanks to some kind benefactors.

All in all the future for non league football in the North West London area looks bleak.

Only clubs with a large catchement area and no league clubs around them seem to flourish these days, with there being few exceptions to the rule.

Gavin I was stunned to hear the news today when I spoke with H.T.F.C.

My wife and I lived in Edgware during the mid eighties, my father also lived and worked in the area and I have very fond memories of Edgware Town F.C. We used to go to the games and spent many hours and pounds in the clubhouse afterwards.

When we came back to Edgware with Hertford I honestly hardly recognised the area from when we left in 1991. I stood in silence for about 10 minutes trying to remember the way Edgware was. I worked at the Post Office B.O. counter for 6 years and that was closed and even the Railway pub next to it was boarded up, how very sad that was to see.

It used to have that community feel about it in Colindale and Burnt Oak but I just could not believe the changes.

That day was a very sad day for me, I'm feeling gutted right now and just do not know what to say.

We will do our best to get down to the ground later in the month.

Thanks for the kind words Manic, I know you have a soft spot for both the town and the club. As you say, Edgware is sadly not the same as it was, I am sure this is true of many areas that were once nice places to live and bring up a family.

I know you did the right thing by moving to Hertford, from what I can tell its a nice place with a nice feel to the place, kind of what Edgware used to be. I am sure it has some less then savrouy people living there, but on the whole anywhere outside of London that is leafy and green has got to be better then here.

Actually, thats not true, its not so much the are, its the people who make the area what it is, and sadly the people in thise area are making it a dump frown

My Girlfiend and I are looking at moving outside of London in the next 12 months, this time next year or sooner I hope to be living somewhere else.

You will be most welcome to come to the match on the 21st July

There are some interesting posts on the equivalent thread on another's Forum from some of the anoraks giving their opinions on Edgware's sad demise:

LOL good idea Paula. There is going to be a full council meeting next week, and we will have a chance to ask questions over the sale of our ground.

It was Harrow councils who are to blame, they overturned a 9-0 result against planning into a 5-4 result in favour of going ahead and knocking down our ground....questions will be asked.

I too hope something can be rescued, we have a similar threat at our local club.

Can I ask, does the club have a long term lease? The official site says the lease is in jeopardy and you must vacate by December, is that because of a six month notice being given? Or is it a financial issue, losing the benefactor/sponsor meaning the club cant afford the rent?

Our club is threatened with eviction by it's landlord but intends to fight its case and is confident of staying at least the season.

Thanks KTFC, you know Kingsbury and Edgware United, would not have been a bad idea, but now you are run by the London Tigers things may have changed.

Still, we are hopeful with the rescue package that is currently in place and maybe just maybe we will take our deserved place in the Ryman league this season...

Todays press release on the Ryman site is even more encouraging then yesterdays

Maybe just maybe things are going to be ok...

Light At The End Of TheTunnel

A press release on the Ryman League site today offers encouraging news regarding the future of the club and chances of football this season

Press Release

EDGWARE TOWN FC

The Club have started to put a rescue package together, and expect to confirm they have secured their financial security. They have use of their ground until the end of 2007, and are exploring its possible continued use after that to the end of the season, together with alternative arrangements to allow them to play the season through elsewhere. The Club have requested a little more time in these respects, and have promised to keep the League aware of on-going developments

The lease was for 5 years of which we had just under 4 left. However when the council overturned a previous decison not to allow planning on the ground this may have become null and void.

The club are putting together a rescue package read below.

May I ask who your club are?

its Dorking in Surrey, currently in combined counties but Ryman season before last.

The ltd company has no lease, the council is it's landlord and has said it will evict the Ltd co.

The ltd co says it will stay and fight through the courts.

It seems surprising that they think they can stay put but Edgware with a lease have to go. That's why I was wondering if it was cash problems. Cash can normally be sorted to save a club if they are not bust big time.

All the best anyway.
