I didn't think you wanted promotion!

Edgeware, Hertford, V&E & WGC were only teams from the SSML that applied for promotion last season...it will be interesting to see wot happens now...if they decide to promote a team surely it would have to come from the SSML ?

If this is the end, at least it ended with the BEST Edgware team in its 68 year history!!!!!!

Oh well...worth a shot i guess...but had they decided to promote they would have had to promote hertford being the highest placed team that could accommodate promotion and therefore the only team able to represent the SSML at the next step

Just got a call from a guy at the NLP who said a big article will be in this Sunday's paper. BBC London said they will do something either online or on air or both, after I spoke to them.

Gavin

Sport London e Benfica would like to wish you the best of luck in this difficult period. We're new to the SSMFL, and we would love to help you, if we could, but obviously the more experienced teams can give you better advice than us.

However, if there is anything that you think that we could help you with, please don't hesitate to get in contact.

I'm sure with all this support you'll be able to turn it around!

Gav, the two e-mail addresses I have for Russ don't work anymore. However, Gregg and Jeff at Kentish Town both know him well too so I'm sure clip Rods could pass the message on and ask one of them to contact him unless, of course, Gregg reads this thread himself first. Alternatively, Russ' brother is (was?) Secretary of Hillingdon Borough FC so you could try that route. Good luck!

Gavin - I will PM you Jeff's e-mail address now, he is 'like that' with Russell Grant and will at least be able to put you in contact with him.

This is a message from Steve Newing manager of Edgware Tow and an Edgware Town legend both as player and manager, he wanted you all on the SSML to read this.

"YES - for those of you who hadn't guessed STEVE NEWING is HOTSHOT.

I have along affinity for the club- i regarded it as my second home during the nineties as a player and for a season as player manager.

When i took the call from Paul Gregory yesterday informing me of what had happened i was in total shock .

There was always the threat (of not owning your ground) that this could be the outcome - but the speed and suddeness of it all is what is really hard to take.

We had just had the best season in the clubs history , Myself and Del never had to worry about anything , Paul and Kenny took care of all that was going on behind the scenes.

Colin sorted the pitch out , Ni and Tony ran the bar. ( THANKS TO YOU ALL )

The players for a budget of 400 quid a week between them 25/30 per week each were the best bunch of players that i have and Del have ever had the pleasure of working with.

I think most people thought we bankrolled our success last year - well the figures above speak volumes for what this set of lads were all about - ( most would play for nothing )

They had the mentality of being best mates and never said never when it came to trying to win a football match.

The lads , myself and Del were confident of pushing on and having a real go at STEP 4 this season.

It is only just sinking in today that the WHITE LION GROUND of which i have some great playing and managing memories will be housing ( affordable some of it ) in a couple of years time.

I suppose 16 million quid was too good an offer for our landlord to turn down. ( Harrow council is where the blame lies to have planning permission turned down 9 - 0 , to be 5 -4 in his favour 2 months later doeesnt add up apart from the money ??

I would like to thank those people involved at other clubs , Gordan Bartlett ( Wealdstone ) , Dave Howells ( Harrow Boro ) Steve Ringrose ( Hillingdon Boro ) Gary Mcann ( Hendon ) Johnno ( Colney Heath ) Mich Harvey ( North Greenford ) Coops ( Hertford ) Danny Edwards ( Chalfont St Peter )Ferus Moore ( wealdstone ) who have all taken the time to call me and Del today to express their shock at what has happened to a club that was beginning to find its feet.

The statement on this thread from the WEALDSTONE CHAIRMAN sums it all up. ! ( THANKS )

All of you who made our last ever season, as it has transpired in the SSML last year so enjoyable ( we were told it was a hospitable league to play in and you all proved that) a BIG THANK YOU

At least the club went off in style.!!!

After what i have gone through over the last couple of days i wouldnt wish this on anybody - I hope this is the last of football pitches being sold for housing without a care for the football club ( BUT I DOUBT IT WILL BE THE LAST )

Most of all i feel genuinely sorry for the supporters of the club - IT IS THEIR CLUB THAT HAS GONE !!!!

For those of you whose clubs havent got a game on the 21st July it would be good to see you down at the WLG ( entrance free ) where baring a minor miracle the last game to be played by EDGWARE TOWN will take place. ( we will be honouring a pre season friendly against North Greenford Utd )

Followed by a very emotional drowning of our sorrows in the clubhouse.

Finally thank you lads for last year and who knows we may get back together somewhere else in the future !

Yours ( an emotional )

Steve Newing

RIP EDGWARE TOWN FC."
