3praise - Jayjay's links have helpfully reminded me that a certain Club is also celebrating its Centenary this year however there are no celebrations planned as far as I can see:

Perhaps they're embarrassed about saying they were founded in 1907, not 1976? We claim our 1908 founding from the time that the name Hertford Town was first used - the constituent clubs go back further.

How on earth does every topic/thread etc get pulled into becoming a thread about Haringey Borough?

Rhodes keep checking the website for information about the club.

3praise - There is no mention about the Centenary celebtrations on the Website however hopefully David Lammy's letter will prompt an answer from the Club in the near future.

So you're admitting that there might not be any Centenary Celebrations then, I won't mention those four words as it must be getting boring but another e-mail will go off to the Tottenham Journal tonight who are monitoring the situation closely.

Keep Checking the Website Rhodes - it may appear soon! although as i have shown on another thread some would say that Haringey where not founded until 1976 so it could be seen as misleading to have a centenary year this year! we are investigating!

I think you are trying to move the goalposts and in so doing are making a mockery of 100 years of history which is disgusting. The Club are 100 years old this year, ie 1907, end of, and if there are no celebrations planned then David Lammy MP will want to know the reason why.

I don't know Haringey's history so can some one tell me why they changed their name in 1976?

If they merged with another team I would suggest this is when they were formed, if they amalgamated with another team they may take their formation date to when they were first formed (like Bristol City and Watford) or if they just changed their name then I see no reason why they should give 1976 as their formation date.

It was not until 1976 that a team playing under the name of Haringey Borough first played in senior football but the roots of the Club go back to 1907 when Tufnell Park FC was formed and joined the London League in which it played until 1914 and from 1912 to 1914 a team was also entered into the Athenian league - it being not unusual for a club to play in more than one of the rather small sized leagues then operating. After the First World War the Club joined the Isthmian League in 1919 and was in membership until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. Meanwhile, in 1909, the Clubs reserve side had broken away to form a separate Club known briefly as Tufnell Spartans and then Wood Green Town - again playing in two Leagues - the London League from 1909 to 1913 and the Spartan League from 1911 to 1914. In 1919 the Club rejoined the Spartan League as Wood Green Town, playing at the Clubs present Coles Park ground and remaining in membership until 1939.

After the Second World War Tufnell Park lost their ground in Holloway and played first of all at a ground in Alderbury Ride, Cheshunt and then at the Barrass Stadium in Edmonton at which point they changed their name to Tufnell Park (Edmonton) FC. After finishing bottom of the Isthmian League in 1952 they were (surprisingly for that League at that time) not re-elected and competed in the Spartan League for three years from 1952 to 1954 - briefly crossing paths with Wood Green Town again - until joining the Delphian League in 1954 in which they remained until 1963 when that League closed down and was absorbed into the Athenian League competition as Division 2. At this point the Tufnell Park name was dropped and they played under the name of Edmonton FC until 1973 when the use of the Barrass Stadium was lost and they amalgamated with Wood Green Town who had not been re-elected to the Spartan League when finishing last in 1967 and had dropped into Intermediate football while retaining the use of their Coles Park Ground. The Club then played as Edmonton & Haringey FC until 1976 when the present name Haringey Borough was adopted (although to add to the complications, Wood Green Town had also used that name for a time when in Intermediate football). After that only one further name change occurred and that was in 1995/96 when the Club reverted to Tufnell Park FC for just one season before changing back to Haringey Borough.

The Club competed in the Athenian League until that Competition closed and they were admitted into the Isthmian League Division 2 North in 1984, remaining in membership for four years but being unable to fulfil their fixtures in 1988/89 due to a mass exodus of management and players just a few weeks before the start of the season. After a year in the wilderness they were admitted to the Spartan League in 1989 retaining membership until the South Midlands League merger in season 1997/98 when they finished 7th. in the Premier Division South to secure membership of the new 'combined' Premier Division in 1998/99. Relegation was only narrowly avoided in that and the two following seasons. A massive improvement took place in season 2001/02 following the appointment of Mike Antoniades for his second spell as Manager and 12th place was achieved followed by 15th in 2002/03. His work commitments necessitated management changes for 2003/04 but after a promising start only a late burst saved the team from bottom spot. A young Reserve team was formed in season 2000/01 and having consolidated its position in three seasons in the London County League switched to the Middlesex County League in 2003/04. No Reserve side as such will be run in 2006/07 but a team has instead been entered into the Islington Midweek League. A further new venture for the 2002/03 season saw the Club fielding an Under 18 team in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League in which it held its own and battled through three preliminary rounds of the FA Youth Cup to reach the First Round Proper. In the summer of 2004, an Under 19 team competed in the prestigious Gothia Youth Tournament in Sweden which attracts more than 1500 teams from all corners of the globe and battled right through to the quarter final stage becoming the last UK survivors in their age group and in 2005 returned with the 'B' Cup for their age group. Another new development for 2006/07 will see an Under 16 side playing in the Harrow Youth League.

A Womens Team was formed in 1999 and, after a first season of 'friendly' matches only, the predominantly young team finished as runners-up in both the 2nd. and 1st. Divisions of the Eastern Region Womens League to earn Premier Division status for season 2002/03 and coped easily to finish fourth in their first season of Premier Division football. The 2001/02 Eastern Region Knock-out Plate was won in the final at Cambridge City's ground and in April 2002 (and again in June 2003) they won the Region's annual 5 a side Tournament. A thrilling League Cup Final was lost by the odd goal in seven to Norwich City Canaries in 2005/06.
