'The great' Arthur Barker was not at Haringey last season however the season before he scored the fastest goal in the Club's 100 year history timed at six seconds. That would have paled into insignificance though had Thomas Looney scored straight from the kick off at Brimsdown in March on two seconds, the keeper pedalled back frantically and just grabbed the ball before it crossed the line.

While we are re visiting The Gary Conner Gold Archives, I should point out that he largely spoke absolute "bobbins" long before he joined Hertford! I was his number 2 when he was in charge of the reserve side at Lowfield a few years ago.

 

The one that sticks in my mind most (and the story most fondly re-told in the clubhouse) was when, on a gloomy and wet night away to Sawbo, we faced a team who had always been our bogey side. Gary and I wanted to get the players really focused in the dressing room and we conducted a rousing team talk which had the team hanging on our every word. You could hear a pin drop as the lads all paid real attention to the gaffers instructions and were visably taking the whole occasion very seriously.

 

Untill.....

 

...Gary ended his verbal joust with the immortal line... "....remember....there is no 'I' in INDIVIDUALS..."

 

All his good work undone in 2 seconds flat as the team rolled around on the floor laughing their socks off!!

 

Genius!
