If we cannot look to the coming season with hope and expectation it is not worth looking at all.

There were some great individual and team performances last season. But not enough!
And with a reduced budget and the continuing uncertainty of what is going on at the club its hard to be optimistic.
But i do admire your ability to look at things that way at times.

Winning is as much a state of mind as anything else.

We don't know yet what our team will be, and we are assuming it is going to be worse than last season, we're not placing much trust in our manager are we? Perhaps we should wait and see what we run out with on the first game of the season (not the first friendly!).

If winning was a state of mind, to read the forum one would have assumed we have already lost.

I am sorry, but I am not ready to admit defeat yet.

It all depends how you measure those twin imposters of success and failure.

On what we know so far,i'm suggesting a 14th finish-is that failure -not necessarily .

Last season was imo one of the biggest failures in football ever-how we could be blown so spectacularly post Xmas still amazes me.

With that side, RT should have in his words-smashed everyone out of sight'.

This season though, if on what we know so far, a top half finish would be excellent, and top 7 superb .Combine that with good cup runs, a start on the ground, bigger crowds, more off pitch marketing effort, survival, and that for me would be a very successful season.

I'm certainly not expecting play-offs next season, but that is not necessarily failure.

The fact is ,on what we know to date, i reckon 14th in league-which is probably on a par comparatively with last seasons 'effort'.

Top 7 and RT will have done well imo,and i'd call that relative success

(but can he achieve that ?)

I can't believe people are saying that a mediocre mid table finish would be a satisfactory season. I can't really get excited this season, with other teams having a flurry of activity and we have, we think, had two mediocre signings from teams in our or a lower division. As has been said before I'm not sure if RT has the right contacts that we need to get the players. I really hope I am proved wrong. I understand that the budget has been cut but there is just no info coming through on the playing front and nothing to excite people or encourage them to come to Hartsdown next season. In my opinion last season was a complete disaster considering we were top of the league a couple of times and never even made the play offs. I don't know whether it was disciplin in the squad or what but there needs to be a big improvement this season. A bad start and attendances will plummet. Before people moan and have a go I really hope I am proved wrong. I travel from London to matches so I think I am entitled to my opinion.

Completely agree Margateshot. I'm really worried about next season. Quality players let go and replaced by unheard of ones ( Yianni excepted ) ressies or youngsters. I'm sick of hearing about the budget-we should have gone up last season then if that's the case but we didn't-the word is FAILURE.

If we secure the signing of Sappleton I will be much more positive but I won't hold my breath.

It's good to see some healthy honesty on here for a change.

I was gonna help fund it, by selling my self to the sex trade and target wealthy japanese business men, if i sucked at that, then i would sell body parts to the highest bidder.

I think I will aim at the Japanese business women myself or be a Hollywood body double for Danny de Vito

Last season unfortunately proved that some of the teams with the best squads (ie. us!), in terms of quality, do not always get promoted.

I am not convinced that AFC Wimbledon will walk this league this season, despite their number of signings.

In terms of our team and its prospects, we cannot really comment until we have seen them play and so have seen how they are playing as a unit as well as individually. Mid-table is not a satisfactory target for this season, it has to be a play-off spot and looking for promotion.

I think last season RT proved that he did not have the nous or experience to manage a team of cpmparative galletico's (or however you spell it)and in the process compromised a few of the fringe players aswell. It was failure undoubtedly given the resources.

He may surprise us and i'm prepared to give him the chance(not that its anything to do with me)and prove a very good manager this season managing some some 'lesser lights' and mould them into a consistent winning combination.

I really hope he comes good for the club and for himself

Many good players are unearthed from divisions below, so thats not an issue for me-the issue is the apparent lack of numbers at this stage of the season;and are we now settling for second/third best amongst the lesser lights.

The target has got to be winning the league - if we don't at least we will have tried.

Might not be a bad idea if all players were told to have a look at Jeff Trice's website just to see the history of Margate FC.

Lol! Makes interesting reading this thread. Every now and then on here I mention that the great man Chris Kinnear should never have been sacked and I always get shot down in flames for it and get told that we have to move the club forwards.

Will someone please explain to me then where we have moved forwards?

How many more times-Chris had taken the club as far as it could go (i.e. to it's best place ever in it's history) and of course it was all the managers fault some t^at knocked the ground down and got us demoted and then the manager kept the team going with no money and no players, could have moved elsewhere but stayed loyal (stay Chris campaign - remember that) and then got the boot for someone who has taken us to-ah yes, about exactly the same position we were two years ago, brilliant!
