Derek Stillie

Sounds OK...

' Derek Stillie is a sold and reliable goalkeeper, with a wealth of experience. He is quick off his line and a good shot-stopper. Stillie was born in Cumnock, East Ayrshire on December 3, 1973 and started his career with Notts County Boys Club before signing with Aberdeen in August 1995. In four years at Pittodrie, Stillie made just 26 appearances for the Dons and moved on to Wigan Athletic in summer 1999. Stillie played 57 games for the Lancashire club, twice helping them reach the Division Two play-offs. Dunfermline brought him back to Scotland in July 2002 and he became a virtual ever present in the Pars side, making a total of 117 appearances for the club. Before the start of the 2005/6 season the then Tangerines boss Gordon Chisholm was in need of an experienced keeper to replace the departed Tony Bullock, and Stillie was duly signed from Dunfermline for an undisclosed fee. As first-choice keeper, he was ever present in the Dundee United side until January when illness kept him out of a 2-1 home win over Falkirk. He also missed the final six Scottish Premier League games of the season due to injury, but still managed 34 appearances for United. '

And a 'good shout' by retarded turtle, who first suggested the idea to Ritchie H.

The Scottish Premier is easily on a par with the "Blue Square" South or North. Maybe it should feed into the Conference National if the winning club has a suitable ground.

Quoth the Review:

'Meanwhile, Hanlon has yet to confirm whether he has landed the experienced goalkeeper he has been courting.

He was hoping to conclude a deal for the player last week but nothing has been offically rubber-stamped. '

Get that rubber-stamp out quick before he goes to St*v*n*g*!

So "nothing has been officially rubber-stamped" eh? Hmmmmnnn. Something is only 'officially rubber-stamped' after agreement has been reached in principle. Hmmnnn.

Where on earth do these hacks get this stuff? You can tell it's the cricket season.

From the St Albans Review website :-

http://www.stalbansobserver.co.uk/sport/...o_make_mark.php

Meanwhile, Hanlon has failed to land the experienced goalkeeper he was pursuing because the club could not match the Scottish stopper's pay demands.

"We know we need a decent keeper after Paul Bastock," said Hanlon on Tuesday. "We're still looking at a few and I spoke to one yesterday. He is only 23 but has played regular first team football.

"I've know the player for a long time and there are a few league clubs after him but they are only interested in bringing him in as a number two. We can offer him the chance to be our number one keeper.

"The person who comes in will be good enough for what we want."

I hear Mark has had a few problems healthwise. I hope he does regain full fitness and I hope he does get to play again. He's a great bloke. He was the York City keeper when we were relegated from the Football League.
