Bernard Manning

Recommended Posts

a very charitable man....a man who looked out and cared for his family, but a terrible racist. (self admitted)

I couldnt stomach most of his humour...which is a shame, cos a few of his jokes weren't actually offensive and his delivery was top class !

RIP, but I hope he meets a Black, Jewish, Female God

let he without sin cantos....

we all make funny racist comments but do not admit to it outside of our close circle of confidants...manning only publicly said what most of the country believe in.....if you take the p155 its racist..whatever it is....and we all do it...

its all PC bollox and he was a better man than any on here...

and I doubt any of you pontificating on here whilst sagely nodding your pinko heads and beards ever saw him live in his heyday...

the man was a genius...

I think you are wrong to say that most people in this country are racists....

If Manning was a genius, then so were Barrymore and Glitter..except they had a bigger impact and played to larger crowds

how do you define racism...of course jokes and comments about people different to ourselves can be funny....and manning played to audiences on the tv far bigger than those you mention..

please also explain what barrymore and glitter have to do with this...

and I am not wrong...most people and indeed you also are racist..... bless you all....

its just that you do not understand truly what the word means...

It is not the racial content that was the problem with me,i generally do not like that style of comedian.Jim Davidson,Chubby Brown,Jimmy Jones and others leave me cold.

I'm with UU on this one. One classic moment was on Parkinson when Miss Holier than Thou (aka Esther Rantzen) was on the show with BM and she was prattling on about his poor taste in humour, when he told the joke about the blind man with the dog and kicking it in the nuts.. (I am sure you all know it).

And La Rantzen had to hide her teeth (tough ask) in her hands to stop herself from laughing... Quality moment!

To be perfectly honest it is all down to an era thing. From the end of WW2 most of the humour was pretty bland (apart from Max Miller, Tony Hancock and one or two others).

It was all musical hall-based and tended to be one dimensional. The Goons and Pythons et al broke the mould then along in the early 70s came the show called the Comedians, which was a totally new concept and then moved on to the Alternative Comedy era of the mid 80s.

It will obviously be us of an older persuasion who will appreciate BM's humour. And Westie, life was in colour in the early 70s, honest.. smile

When Manning's routine consisted of how Pakistanis smell funny, how hungry Ethiopians are, how stupid the Irish and black people are....it's racist and it's lazy.

He could have been so much more witty...which is a shame

I'm irish and I am stupid so what's wrong with that then...grin

strikes me that the topic of most of his jokes was actually factually correct...I am listening to radio 2 at the moment and there is a talk-in about bernard...very mixed views and interestingly enough the mother in law stuff is getting most of the flack....so les dawson was PC incorrect as well then....god help us and save us from this insecure madness that envelopes our fragile society
