In today's NLP Ebbsfleet and Woking are both rumoured to be interested in signing Havant & Waterlooville's Rocky Baptiste. However, he is still contracted to them for another year and a £50,000 fee has been slapped on him. End of alleged EUFC interest I would imagine?

It sounds a lot but then again possibly not. He scored 28 goals last season and was the Conference South's top scorer.

They will probably not get anything like £50,000 for Baptiste. However at least Havant & Waterlooville had the foresight to put one of their better players on a two year contract.

Its just a pity that the 'Fleet weren't able to afford to, or get agreement from, either Macdonald, Smith or Sodje for a similar deal at the end of the season before last.

All three would probably have still gone elsewhere but at least the club could have benefitted from receiving a transfer fee.

That would have been a clever trick with Sodje....he wasn't playing for us then.
As for whether it was a case of 'couldn't afford to' or 'couldn't get agreement from' I think you will find it is one and the same. If we paid them enough and could afford to offer longer contracts they would sign them but as we all know we haven't got the money.
