Ryman divisions

Looking at the distances we have to travel, like to Wivenhoe on Tues night, does anyone agree with me that the North-South division was ill-thought-out and frankly silly? To use the Thames may seem, at first glance, an obvious choice but it :- a) means that clubs incur unneccessary travelling expense, reduces local derby competitive games, and c) will cease to be strictly N-S in future unless (and this is unlikely) the teams coming down fall evenly into the two geographical areas.

It would have made more sense to have a East-West divide, with the boundary flexible from season to season. This would encourage local community competition and mean much less travelling for all.Did Slough Town agree to the present set-up?

I would have imagined that it was a majority decision on the boundaries. If as it seems next season (presuming the league structures stay the same) three or more teams from the north of the Thames are relegated, we would move into the Division One South as we were one of the last teams to be placed into a division in the current split.

 

The best option IMO would have been the merge between the Isthmian and Southern Leagues as at the moment the boundaries are all over the place between the two. The north west/north east/south west/south east four way split would have been far and away the best in terms of locality for clubs, certainly for us, but that is certainly not going to happen as the Doc Martens appears to be much more clued up than the Ryman League, so a lot of their clubs would not be in favour of possibly moving into the Ryman.

Im looking forward to taking a trip to the isle of wight if the Ryman league does merge with the Doc Martens,imagine that on a tuesdaay night!!!!!

In view of the fact that the Southern League met at Wycombe last week and voted 65-1 in favour of two leagues only below the Conference I think any proposed redefining of borders between them and the Ryman is highly unlikely!
