Interesting new developments....

...Braintree Wanderers, the newly-formed club sharing at Braintree's Cressing Road next season, have disappeared from the confirmed ECL Division One constitution and also White Notley do not appear in the EOL's line up either...

Could these two sides be our new mystery guests next season?

It would be good for football in Braintree coup. It would be good for your league. It would be good for the member clubs - an 18 team league giving 34 league fixtures plus a vibrant cup competition. Football in God's own county would be on the up.

You'd all get a very warm welcome at Cressing Road. It's a tidy venue these days and the BWFC committee have been working hard raising finance and attracting a young playing squad - not based on money, but about playing the great game the way it should be. They're all keen and enthusiastic - it's great to see. I am confident that BWFC would be a credit to your league and wouldn't let you or the league down.

But there are dark clouds in the distant horizon coup. Yesterday the young neck that was BWFC was laid bare across the chopping board of the Ridgeons League AGM and, under instruction from Gestapo HQ, cast asunder.

Not all is lost though. There is one last point of salvation coup. But the opposition are strong and well organised. In front of this young side are the thousand-strong faceless blazers in darkened rooms that think they know what's best for the game could scupper it all. If common sense does prevail and the fledgling club are encouraged, then perhaps these eager young lads can play football rather than turn to the evil that is rugby or just shopping with the misses.

If the brave men of God’s own county do extend the hand of welcome and benevolence then I am sure that, when the dawn of that morning comes, we will remember them.

Cannot see any opposition from the ESL point of view Lee. Playing at a decent ground as long as they have the personnel to keep the club afloat (and a few bob helps) then I am sure they will be welcomed aboard in the ESL.

What news on White Notley then, am I barking up the right tree there too?

coup, I don't think the ESL is/was ever going to be the problem mate - it's always come across as being a welcoming league. I think that BWFC just felt that, at step 5, it might be seen to be a bit optimistic as a starting point. That said, I know they would be delighted to be invited.

IMHO, they are very well organised. I would not recommend or support them were that not the case. They have a committee formed and from that committee have elected a chair, secretary, treasurer and manager. They are well funded, with a number of donations already secured, and we at Braintree Town will do our best to help, guide and support them.

Don't know about the other club though, sorry.

Beaumont suffered similarly when they cut their teeth with us last season. I am sure there must be enough players in the locale who could do them proud.

So did they resign their application for the ECL, or were they told to jog on by aforementioned committee?

Agreed. I understand that BWFC have had a lot of interest. Playing wise, they would find it tough of course, but they'd give it their best shot and with the right attitude.

As to yesterday's AGM, my understanding is that Gestapo HQ put the frighteners on the Ridgeons League and they melted away. Strange really because, having seen the correspondance, BWFC met ALL the requirements for entry into their First Division which is three clubs short.

Perhaps, sometimes, the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many.

White Notley are moving to the Essex & Suffolk Border League.

As for Braintree Wanderers, we'll have to wait and see. LC has asked everyone to hold tight a little longer. wink

Just as a point of interest for you

There will be no new clubs in the Ridgeons League for 2007/08.

League secretary Nigel Spurling said: “Braintree Wanderers applied to join, but the Football Association ruled that as a new club they will need to start at Step 7, which is Border League level.

“To my knowledge this is the end of the matter.

“There are no other applications to be discussed at the AGM.”

Why would notley go to the border league next year? I thought that was a weaker league than the Olympian league, or are they at similar levels?
