Peter Simpson seems a little miffed, almost going as far as saying they only had the pitch done for us....

Thats a good way to annoy the home fans, players and management.

to paraphrase

'Yes, this pitch is good enough for you but it needs to be better for Slough'

Waits for Windsor Sec or Mal to now bitch me out smile

Not at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Not sure how you came to summarise it like that though as there is nothing to suggest that in the two articles in the Slough Express (haven't seen the Observer so apologies if that reads diferent).

No one is questioning whether it makes sense or not, and yes IMO it does make sense to pay less for something.

I believe the issue is, and I don't know for sure if it is or it isn't, just going by what was in the Express, that up till 17th May officials of Slough Town FC had been meeting with Windsor & Eton officials and talks were ongoing. Roy Merryweather had already complete and posted the reaquired forms to the FA and Southern League instructing them that they would be playing at Stag Meadow.

Now, none of us will ever know who did what, when and with whom as we haven't been involved, again we can only go by what is in the papers.

Waits for Martin, Chris S & King Tutt to now bitch me out, as they always seem to be involved in everything wink

Having read the statement, it appears that nothing underhand went on at all. The parties from Slough made it clear with the initial meeting with Mr Simpson what their ceiling limit was and if Mr Simpson chose to go away and continue with the preparations for the pitch, knowing full well that this upper limit was all that STFC could pay, he must've known the risk he was taking by asking for a higher limit later.

Also, since no paperwork was signed, nothing was made official and therefore in a legal sense at least, neither side has done anything wrong.

In addition, its good to see the Southern League have been sensible about this. Roll on next season.
