Birthdays today include Rebecca Adlington, Michael Jordan and the late great Gene Pitney. On 17 February 1996 World chess champion Garry Kasparov wiped the floor with the IBM supercomputer ‘Deep Blue’ in Philadelphia and on 17 February 1979 China sent hundreds of troops into Vietnam after weeks of tension and a Military build-up along the border.
