Soccer Club Deserves Support of Islanders

 

After getting down to my work as a new Canvey Independent Party councillor, the main thing our leader Dave Blackwell wanted was far greater interaction with the public.

 

That was where I wanted to be, out there with the people, ears open and taking on board the wider views of the public.

 

So this week, I had an invite to visit Canvey Football Club which was hosting a thank you party for its staff and fans who have dedicated their time to bring this great club through a difficult period of uncertainty for the future.

 

I did not know what to expect, but what I did find and what amazed me was the loyalty of these dedicated fans.

 

I have for so long stated that Canvey had no heart beat, but I have found a heart beating in this fantastic club, I must have been blind not to have noticed.

 

From the minute I walked in the people were friendly, the loyal fans that have kept this club's head above water. I have never seen such loyalty since I was in the Army.

 

The immaculate pitch, the crisp painted ground, I walker around the ground with chairman Dennis Rugg and it was hard not to feel a sense of great pride.

 

I cam away that night and I was sold. They now have a new big fan in me.

 

I say to my fellow islanders that this is a club that deserves our support.
