Setanta have announced the format of their cup competition...

 

At the Conference AGM, details of the Setanta Shield were revealed. The new competition will see Blue Square North and South sides facing each other until 8 teams are left. They will then join the 24 Blue Square Premier sides for the final stages of the competition. Setanta have pledged to screen 9 of the matches live.

Setanta will screen a total of 69 non-league matches, one every Thursday, some on Tuesdays and the rest scattered over the weekend.

 

It sounds like we could be playing northern teams on a Tuesday evening!

Unfortunately, the bloke who used to drive the red whatsit has informed me that it is regionalised until national clubs enter.

 

Still, should be progress, you never know.

So how do you get 4 clubs from 22 then?

 

10 byes in prelim round, the rest play = 16 left

then 16 down to 8, 8 down to 4?

 

We could be facing up to 8 more games here...

Four clubs merge to leave 20.

 

Three go skint before the start leaving 17.

 

One forgets to register for the competition and hey presto! 16.

Apparently there is a rule in the Setanta Shield that 10 players who were on the team sheet for the previous league game must be named to play in the Setanta Shield game.

 

I can see a number of players being 'injured' following League Games
