We have had a smoking ban in Guernsey for over one year now. Prior to its implementation the same arguments were made and smokers marched through St Peter Port insisting that their Human rights (to smoke) had been violated. The most vociferous were the publicans who claimed that the ban would decimate their takings.

 

One year on and most pubs have erected covered areas for smokers, in fact whereas the garden of a pub was the most healthy in the past it is now the most unhealthy which is a little odd as it is the only area designated for children so there is a paradox there.

 

My local pub is an old fashioned (like English pubs used to be) working mans pub, in the past there were layers of blue smoke seen on a summers day. Now it is undoubtedly a nicer place to be in fact you can even wear the same shirt on two seperate days as the stink is not ground in. The licensee still has three holidays a year and it has not put off the smoking customers as was feared.

 

As far as the proposed ban on the terraces as a non smoker I still think this is going too far, it seems to me the main objectors are ex smokers who seem to have a passion to criticise people similar to who they used to be. I agree wholeheartedy with a ban in enclosed areas, but the terraces at Margate(not that there are many of those) is a step too far.

Seriously though I am a non smoker because I was worried it might stunt my growth, I feel that to ban it inside the ground would be mad, besides my mates June and Bitch would never cope wink

Bloody hell - here we aretalking about a smoking ban when we should be buzzing with new signings and what friendlies we have in place and all we can do is talk about a bloody smoking ban..Kills me to say it but the Rams are going about pre season much better than us !
