Smoking Ban

Recommended Posts

I grew up in a time when there was courtesy and a tolerance for difference, and the inherent fascism in our society was not aided and abetted by the moral minority and politicians.

In those days, one would say, do you mind if I smoke? The reasonable would say either yay or nay, and not because they had to because of pc or fashion or the bleatings of the most vocal puritans. If they said yay you could do it, if they said nay you would defer. If you had sensibility you never did it when someone was eating close by, and never in anyone's house unless invited to do so.

Bars and restaurants and trains and many other places offered a choice, there were places you could go to smoke and places where you could not, and therefore those of every persuasion had genuine choice. There is nowadays, for instance, nowhere you can go to avoid the particularly nasty and carcinogenic particulates from diesel and tyre dust and noise pollution and damage to infrastructure, and death and injury caused by motor vehicle traffic, but no-one wants to ban that because everyone wants a car, some want more than one, b*gger global warming, and if you tried to do anything about it you would be drummed out of office.

This is thin end of the wedge, the obese police are already being touted, not to mention those of us that like a quiet tipple at home. They have suceeded once, they will become enboldened and go for other groups. In a few years time we will have a society where no-one will know what it is like to not conform to all the bland rules that are imposed on us, we will all be the same, and we will breed a generation of young people who will not even go to the lavatory without a guide line on how, when and where to do it in the correctly proscribed way.

There are some things other people do that really get up my nose, but if they want to do them, they can, I can go somewhere where I do not have to look. If smokers have an area, no-one needs go there but smokers. Never forget that smokers are doing something completely legal that they choose to do, and contribute to society by tax and revenue in doing so. Of course, they could always make it illegal - plenty of people do illegal stuff but it does not get the torrent of hatred that has been stoked up.

Whatever happened to live and let live? I am glad I am not young now, the future looks really grim.

Oh and the legislation covers ENCLOSED public places.

i am a non smoker who doesnt agree with the smoking ban. wont be allowed to drink next! but as ever it is a half hearted ban that will cause so many problems because of the way it is structured. mfc should use the ban to their advantage and do whatever they have to do to get more fans into the ground. its as simple as that

packed up the wicked weed 18mths ago but i spend more on food now than i did on fags . As an X smoker i understand completly how the smokers feel and someone that has never smoked will never no how hard it is for a smoker to cope with this . Smoking is a drug just like lots of other things we have around nowa-days , if those things were not aloud in public places then there would be a civil war , smoking may be just the start of it so if someone else has a habit that someone else hates that could be next .

I mean what next banning spotty people or Gingers in public as I find them really ofensive and for all you people who say ban smoking please give in your car keys at the next home game as fumes from your car are doing more damage to this planet than fags are. Also if everyone give up tomorrow we would all have to suffer a tax increase to compensate for the lose in revenue.

Well, the coffin end would be good because I have never stood anywhere less enclosed.

An outside area somwhere near the bar with an umbrella would be good, actually more comfortable than the coffin end in any weather.

Offering choice to all sections of the community surely would make the club more attractive?

Whilst I am in rant mode could we please ban fat gits in high streets in singlets for whom deodorant in hot weather is an alien concept.
