New Manager at London Colney....

New London Colney manager Phil Childs is looking forward to the challenge of chasing a top-six place next season in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

The former Flamstead and Harpenden Town boss has stepped in to the hot-seat at Colney after a meeting with chairman Ray Flanagan.

Childs said: "I had done the deal with a bigger budget at Langford but there was something about Ray Flanagan and London Colney. I thought we could do something with the club. The catchment area is good and we want to get a lot of youth players involved. Langford's budget is twice London Colney's but the problem there is they need a completely new rebuilding job.

"London Colney has not got the budget to be in that top four but we want to be in the top six and maybe if we can get a bit more finance in the club and be well organised we can push on."

Colney are enjoying a rivalry with Colney Heath again as the Magpies establish themselves as a Premier Division side and Childs is looking for his side to dominate the local battle. He said: "A lot of players have changed between the two clubs and we have got to stop that. There is the nucleus of a good side at London Colney and we want to bring in a few good youngsters. We have done some scouting and a bit of coaching. My time at Harpenden enthused me to go back in with the right club and I think London Colney is the right one."

Chairman Ray Flanagan believes Childs has the experience and ambition to prove a success at London Colney. He said: "We are very pleased with the appointment and we look forward to the forthcoming season, with a fresh face and fresh ideas.

"We had a meeting and it went extremely well. He is a great bloke and a football man through and through. We have the same ideas on the game and how clubs should be run. I think it will be very good for the club.”

Watford, St Albans City, Hemel Hempstead Town, Potters Bar Town, Colney Heath & Leverstock Green could all be said to include London Colney in their catchment areas.

Could probably slide Welwyn into that as well?

Nobody enjoys it, they think they're big time with a crappy clubhouse without sky, changing rooms from the 70's that are always getting done over and a pitch with a bigger slope than ours!!

They've had their day and are clinging onto past glories we're on the way up!! We'll be the bigger team in the Carrott Crunchers Cup this season!!
